“He [Satan] will set up a counter-Church which will be the ape of the Church because, he the devil, is the ape of God. It will have all the notes and characteristics of the Church, but in reverse and emptied of its divine content. It will be a mystical body of the anti-Christ that will in all externals resemble the mystical body of Christ. In desperate need for God, whom he nevertheless refuses to adore, modern man in his loneliness and frustration will hunger more and more for membership in a community that will give him enlargement of purpose, but at the cost of losing himself in some vague collectivity.”
“Who is going to save our Church? Not our bishops, not our priests and religious. It is up to you, the people. You have the minds, the eyes, and the ears to save the Church. Your mission is to see that your priests act like priests, your bishops act like bishops.”
- Fulton Sheen

A monthly subscription donation means I have steady income I can plan on. I put you my list of benefactors for whom I pray and for whom I often say Holy Mass.
In view of the rapidly changing challenges I now face, I would like to add more $10/month subscribers. Will you please help?

"But if, in any layman who is indeed imbued with literature, ignorance of the Latin language, which we can truly call the 'catholic' language, indicates a certain sluggishness in his love toward the Church, how much more fitting it is that each and every cleric should be adequately practiced and skilled in that language!" - Pius XI
"Let us realize that this remark of Cicero (Brutus 37, 140) can be in a certain way referred to [young lay people]: 'It is not so much a matter of distinction to know Latin as it is disgraceful not to know it.'" - St. John Paul II
Grant unto thy Church, we beseech Thee, O merciful God, that She, being gathered together by the Holy Ghost, may be in no wise troubled by attack from her foes. O God, who by sin art offended and by penance pacified, mercifully regard the prayers of Thy people making supplication unto Thee, and turn away the scourges of Thine anger which we deserve for our sins. Almighty and Everlasting God, in whose Hand are the power and the government of every realm: look down upon and help the Christian people that the heathen nations who trust in the fierceness of their own might may be crushed by the power of thine Arm. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, Thy Son, who liveth and reigneth with Thee in the unity of the Holy Ghost, God, world without end. R. Amen.

I am on the mend after surgery. The support of friends and family meant so much to me. Sometimes we don’t realize how many wonderful people are in our lives until we really need them. Thanks be to God.
I am putting my son on a plane tomorrow, off to the seminary (Toronto Oratory), to begin his first year. He has been at a Catholic college for the last three years discerning and the bishop has approved his application with the diocese this spring. Usually they require a full degree first.
Thank you Lord, another step ahead.
It is my son’s 12th birthday today!
I remember his birth well, as I do the births of my other children. But his in particular. He was born at 04.45 in the morning. Through the window I could see the sun rising as I was facing East. I would love it if he felt called to the Priesthood and I sometimes think back to his birth and wonder…! Our Lady, Mother of Priests, pray for us!
Just finished a chasuble ten years in the making!
The number of Latin Masses in the Republic of Ireland has increased, recently (http://www.latinmassireland.org/). I just noticed this, having not looked that their website for some time.
Not a huge number, overall, you understand, but as there’s only about 4 million people in the entire country, it won’t take many for TLMs to be reasonably accessible to anyone with a car.
Brick by brick!
I’m starting my Master’s degree today!
I “interviewed” a suitable candidate for son-in-law yesterday and was most impressed.
Began a week of vacation and next week go to Texas for the CNMC.
Our pastor announced yesterday (1) that the Mass in Extraordinary Form would be used 14 Sept for Triumph of the Cross, (2) that the MEF would be offered every Sunday beginning 16 Sept, and (3) that the music director was seeking to form a schola. Information at nctlmmef[dot]com .
During the last few days:
1. Heard Mass in the Ordinary form at St John Cantius .
2. Heard Mass in the Extraordinary form at Assumption Grotto, Detroit.
3. Went on a pilgrimage to National Shrine of St Maximilian Kolbe.
4. Went on a pilgrimage to The Basilica Of Our Lady Of Sorrows / National Shrine of St Peregrine.
Couldn’t ask for more!
Adam pronounced his vows as a Jesuit on Saturday, and Erik entered the novitiate.
I just returned from chaperoning at a week-long Catholic camp in upstate NY. There were over 300 young Catholics present who daily prayed the rosary, received the sacraments and attended Adoration together. Many notable priests and religious were there for the week as well. It was a profoundly uplifting and joyful experience and a sign of great hope for the future of the Faith.
My fourth child, Thomas Alexander, was baptized on Saturday with many friends and family celebrating with us. Deo gratias!
My brother, Peter, 23, married his high school sweetheart, Angela, after a 6 year relationship! Our local bishop celebrated the Mass. May God keep their home as a Domestic Church!
My son turned 12 on Tuesday then served his first Mass on the Feast of the Assumption– with only Altar Boys! hanks be to God!
On Wednesday, August 22, at my parish we will have a Solemn High Mass (TLM) for the feast of the Immaculate Heart of Mary (Queenship on the novus ordo calendar)!
Thanks be to God, I have a job! My husband supports us, but with extra income we will be able to visit our faraway relatives once in a while. Also, I had a nearly perfect day yesterday, with beautiful liturgy and good food and time with new friends afterward.
Three days away with family by the seaside in the sunshine…..with no internet!

Congratulations on your sons,
who says there are no vocations out there?
As for me:
As the jester told the queen when his hanging was cancelled (because of silly puns):
“No noose is good news”,
thus canceling the cancelation.
Yesterday, I celebrated the occasion of my being married for three whole months to the loveliest woman I have ever known. I got her a bouquet of flowers and took her out to dinner. Afterwords, we sat on the couch and fell asleep together.
There are some things in life that give a foretaste of heaven.
I begin my first year of Pre-Theology for the Archdiocese of Mobile this Thursday at St. Meinrad in Indiana!
7 transitional deacons were ordained in my Santiago Chile (my archdioceses) :)
My baby started college today.
Tomorrow I will celebrate my 7th anniversary as a Catholic!
Father David Grondz was formally installed as pastor by the bishop at a Solemn Mass in the OF at 9:00 yesterday, amidst great rejoicing. He then turned around (literally and figuratively) and said our regular TLM at noon. Since he came on July 11, he has established a daily Mass schedule which includes Mass in the EF on Friday and Saturday mornings. [First you look at the altar trappings to see their color; then you check the back instead of the front of your missal to figure out which Mass is being said. I haven’t done that in decades. And then you listen to his beautifully enunciated Latin at the Introit to make sure you’re on the right page. ( I may be weird, but that’s my idea of fun.)] Seriously, it’s a great consolation to be able to pray hard and seriously with one’s pastor and fellow parishioners (in either form) in the midst of the disintegrating world situation.
Please pray for strength for our young pastor.
@A. Jones, I’ll be starting Pre-Theology at St. Meinrad myself this week, also studying for a mighty Southern diocese. What good news! We should get a carpool of First Philosophers together to hear the TLM in Evansville.
We had the opportunity to take a spur-of-the-moment Sunday evening drive to bucolic Lancaster County after dinner yesterday. I had never been to Lancaster County on a Sunday and I was not disappointed. The Amish were out in full force, taking their own Sunday “drives” in their horse-drawn carriages. Their farm animals were turned out to pasture in numbers I’d never seen before. We passed a lot of buggies on the roads and as we did, sweet little faces in bonnets and straw hats peeking out from the rear smiled and waved to us. I know they’re not Catholic, but I cannot help but love how they take to heart the command to keep the Sabbath as a day of rest from commerce and servile work.
Attended an absolutely prayerful and beautiful Extraordinary Form Mass at a beautifully preserved church in Jersey City, NJ. The Mass itself, the church, the music and the priest’s sermon was all fantastic.
And best off all… there was a healthy amount of faithful in attendance.
Took a son to the seminary college this weekend, with another son waiting to go next year -it was
an interesting visit with the other diocesan seminarians. And you Fr. Z are highly regarded it seems!
Until 20 minutes ago I did, Grand-daughter #1 (only one so far) is walking!!! She just turned one years old.
But in talking to our daughter, found out that Son in Law lost his job today. It is not a surprise, and the writing has been “on the wall” for some time. He has been looking, and really wanted to give notice once he had a new job. He has an interview Tuesday morning.
We’ve done a Rosary here, I’m planning on making it to early Mass in the morning too. I found out by accident, they were not going to tell us unless things got dire for them.
Our second oldest son was married on Saturday to his beloved! May God bless their union! My husband and I couldn’t be happier with his choice. She is lovely and sweet. Family and friends traveled to the wedding and we had a wonderful weekend celebrating with them all. Two married, five to go!
On Sunday evening after Mass, as we were walking passed our neighbour, she insisted we join them to celebrate her daughter’s engagement. What a celebration! Beautiful decor, the best crockery and cutlery and well-dressed guests. The food was abundant and the happiness tangible. The engaged couple were so happy. It was an unexpected blessing for us to have been part of this wonderful event.
Father announced yesterday that we will be getting a third (!) priest next month. We are so thankful for the wonderful two we have already and so glad that they will have help. In the short time since we were declared a parish and finished the renovation of our lovely little church (two years in October), our numbers have been growing like crazy.
So thanks be to God, our bishop who gave us our parish and the FSSP for turning out enough priests for us to have three!
And thanks to Fr. Z for this thread, which lifts our hearts.
a. jones and joseph, Best wishes from a St. Meinrad oblate. You will have my prayers. Keep us posted on progress.
