Obama first approved ejecting God and Jerusalem from the party platform, and, after heat, got it changed later

The Catholic League has an interesting take on the Democrat Convention (DNC) and the reinsertion of God and Jerusalem into the party platform, and some information I didn’t know when I wrote about the topic HERE.

THE POLITICS OF GOD’S RETURN

September 6, 2012

Catholic League president Bill Donohue comments on the decision by the Democratic National Convention (DNC) to put the word “God” back into the Democratic National Platform:

The Democrats intentionally took the word “God” out of the Platform, took heat for doing so, failed to persuade delegates to put it back in, did so anyway by fiat, and then lied about the entire event.

The White House would have us believe that President Obama intervened to save the day, ordering the delegates to rediscover both God and the capital of Israel. But it was too late. Earlier, the Obama campaign told Politico that Obama had personally approved the Platform, choosing to intervene only after the pushback began.  [Get that?  I’ll be you readers can find that story and post a link.]

Debbie Wasserman Schultz, the DNC chair, who has been caught in a string of lies this week, said the decision to excise God was “essentially a technical oversight.[Surrrrre it was.] David Gergen told CNN viewers the exact same thing. But someone, assumedly with the consent of others, threw God out. Moreover, even if the oversight process failed, it does not explain why the word “God” was initially deemed offensive, thus meriting deletion.

Former Ohio Gov. Ted Strickland, who is in charge of the Platform committee, explained the revised wording by saying, “I wouldn’t call it an error. It was a clarification.” Michelle Obama called the whole thing “a non-issue; and I think it’s a distraction.” It was nice to know that Obama’s faith-based director—of all people—Rev. Derrick Hawkins, also said the flap about God was “a non-issue.[and the cock crowed…]

Terri Holland, a New Mexico delegate, disagrees with these assessments. She said the changes were made to “kow-tow to the religious right.” This is revealing: speaking about God in the Platform is not the kind of thing that thoughtful Democrats want to be associated with. Evidently, one has to be a right-wing loon to reference our “God-given potential.” Her honesty is very much appreciated.

Re: the link to the Politico article, see http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0912/80801.html

It doesn’t say how they came to know about Obama approving the original language but there it is. I think this is certainly a net loss for Obama.

The Free Beacon post tells what seems to be the more plausible story, that the First Gay President was fine with the changes, but covered his tracks later. The link to the Politco (Pollute-ico) seems whitewashed (that Zero had to “personally interevene”), but even it admits, “the campaign at first said Obama had seen the language prior to the convention…”

I like how the stories say Obama intervened and personally directed that the platform be amended, showing how much of a sham the whole “we need a 2/3 majority of delegates to change the platform” line is. No, you just need Obama to speak and his will shall be done. That being the case, how could it be that they wouldn’t/couldn’t have cleared the platform with Obama in the first place?

  4. Sissy says:

What this episode demonstrates is that Obama doesn’t need the delegates, the convention, or the platform….he views himself as ruling alone. It is a party platform by Executive Order.

  5. Sissy says:

The source was reportedly a campaign official. From Politico yesterday:

“Obama had seen the language prior to the convention, a campaign source said, but did not seek to change it until after Republicans jumped on the omissions of God and Jerusalem late Wednesday. And even then, it had to be forced through a convention hall full of delegates who nearly shouted down the change.”

When one lies, one has to cover up with other lies. Like Medusa’s head of snakes, the lies become something alive and fearful. People turn to stone looking at Medusa and at lies, as they cannot fathom the mystery of evil. We are dumbfounded. But, all of this chaos is actually a good thing, as the mask of lies has been taken off. Too many people have not said the same lie. Like Daniel catching the lustful men by separating them and questioning them, thus saving the innocent Susanna’s life, we are seeing the different lies for the cover up.

This convention can hardly produce any positions which are so despicable as those given in the last few days. How low can this show get? Will the Dems even get sick of the lies?

That shrewd, conniving, manipulative, shameful excuse of a president! The entire party is a den of vipers and worse! Not that the other side is blameless, but honestly? This act seems downright Orwellian and Machiavellian!

(My apologies for the angry and slightly incoherent German. I felt that there was no other language fit to express my wrath.)

O Virgin Mother of God, as we approach the feast of your own nativity, pray for America and the whole world, as we all seem to be sinking deeper into the mire of sin and death. May God have mercy on Obama and his ilk, and on the whole world as well.

@Filipino Catholic: Would you please not comment in german on this english speaking blog? I imagine most people here do not understand that language. Since I’m fluent in german, I must tell you that you need to work quite a lot on the spelling and syntax. Sorry. You would express your wrath much better in english. And NO, I’m not german ;-) !

It seems like a great way to anger a whole bunch of people to me. First, leave out God and Jerusalem. Atheists and terrorists will love you. Then, after a huge uproar, change your mind and put them back in the platform. Tick off the atheists and terrorists and leave eryone else thinking you are not only an idiot, but a liar as well. How I just long for some honesty. Come out and tell us what you really think. I’m pretty sure the Democrat party is so out of step with mainstream America that telling the truth about their objectives would be the death (or splitting) of the party. It’s difficult to do battle with a shapeshifter, but I do think the party showed its’ true colors at this convention, and hopefully the Catholic Democrats of my grand-parents’ generation will realize they’ve been left behind in the last forty years.

I suppose they are referring to the caught part.

  15. VexillaRegis says:

Aegidius: :-), thank you! Shouldn’t it be in the vocativ case: Care venerabile Pater, by the way? Gosh, I must brush up my latin…

  16. Aegidius says:

    (conatus secundus)
As far as I know, the vocativ case is just like the nominativ case here. “Venerabile” would be either ablativ case or adverb (or Italian).
You have the more obvious discrimination in the o-declination (e.g. “care”).

  17. VexillaRegis says:

@Aegidius: I really have forgotten too much of my latin! And, yes, the nazis destroyed the reputation of the beautiful and romantic german language and culture with their yelling and barbaric deeds. BTW, I have travelled through the village of Zühlsdorf!
Tschüss! Vale! Bye bye! Hasta la vista!

…entirely for the humour of the matter and not because there’s any significant meaning to it (unless, of course, one would wish to point out that the liberals seem to think a little like Pig in some of these matters, but knowing Pig I think that’s unfair and insulting to what little intelligence he has).
