I’ve journeyed to LaCrosse and the magnificent Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe for the annual Speculum Iustitiae conference.
Card. Burke organized the conference six years ago. It is always intellectually and spiritually refreshing.
Yes it is possible to build beautiful churches in this age.
The altar of Miguel Proh.
We are focusing mostly on marriage during this conference.
Archbp. Broglio is speaking.

There is another side altar there of St. Gianna Beretta Molla.
While visiting, a woman came up to me and pointed out something interesting about the angels in the painting at that altar. The faces of these angels are from photographs of children whose mothers achieved pregnancy through the intercession of St. Gianna. It makes me smile every time I think of it.
The shrine is a beautiful and special place.
I didn’t know that about the painting. Thanks!
Fr. Z, if you get the opportunity, visit Granddad Bluff with its large USA flag and enjoy the vista of the Mississippi and La Crosse environs. One of the humorous sites to visit there is the world’s largest six pack! HERE

The Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe was designed by Notre Dame church architect Duncan Stroik. See his portfolio at

Dear Fr Z,
It’s been a while since I’ve seen anyone say “Thank You” for your magnificent Priestly Vocation, so I do so, now.
Thank You, Fr, for your dedicated life of a Priestly Vocation.
Thank You, Fr, for your adherence to things Catholic.
Thank You, Fr, for your support to Catholics who are “under the cosh” for various reasons from various people and various ideologies.
May God Bless you and keep you (and all your confrères).
What a beautiful setting for the conference. Those icons are quite striking indeed.
I love how–in true Wojtyla/Ratzinger fashion–both Cardinal Burke and Archbishop Broglio still hook their pectoral crosses onto one of their cassock buttons! Most other bishops have adopted the “hang-loose” style of the current papacy.
It’s always nice to see and hear from my Archbishop! Thank you for the photos and video.
