Fathers, hear confessions. Preach about the Sacrament of Penance during Advent. Talk about the difference between venial and mortal sin, and don’t downplay the later. Teach your flock about the need to confess sins in both KIND and NUMBER. Help them prepare for a good confession. Tell them not to ramble and not to hide anything.

Pastors, please make available outside of your confessionals some solid, orthodox pamphlets with an examination of conscience. I rarely see them any more, and I believe they are necessary in today’s age.
I was just about to start my thorough examination of conscience before heading out to my Annual Liturgical New Year’s Confession. I have misplaced my thorough examination of conscience booklet, so i came here to get the one you posted.
My kids and I just went this afternoon in preparation for Advent. Fr. Z, please don’t ever stop telling us to go to Confession. I’ve lost count of the number of times your reminders have gotten my sorry self out to Confession. Keep it up!!
