UPDATE – VIDEO: Bishop Joaquim Mol of Brazil confirms girl and then denies her Communion because she is kneeling

UPDATE 9 Aug 23:

When I first posted this, I didn’t make any comments.  It was really late.

HOWEVER, as someone on the combox points out, this jackass is distributing Communion on the hand BY INTINCTION.  Watch the first part closely.

To everyone… when you take videos with your phone, use the horizonal position. Crank up quality when you think it might be important.

Everyone should see this.

Bishop Joaquim Mol, Auxiliary of Archdiocese of Belo Horizonte (Brazil), Salesian. He just confirmed her. He denies Communion because she knelt. BECAUSE SHE KNELT.

20 view at the time of this posting.

Maybe we can help.

    Very pastoral and inclusive.

  2. Angela says:

So very sad to watch, but God will bless her for her courage. Let’s fill the comments on the video with encouragement for her, and pray an Ave Maria now for her to remain firm in faith. Kyrie eleison.

  3. IaninEngland says:

    I am very angry.

The poor little girl was obviously distressed.

    Millstones come to mind.

  4. Not says:

Have Our Bishops lost all humility?

  5. L. says:

    Monstrous.

  6. Danteewoo says:

Sounds like Confirmation worked — she is standing firm in the face of an enemy of the Church.

  7. OneTradMale says:

A regular wolf in sheep’s clothing.

What did he say to her? “Why are you kneeling? Stand, my child.” *pause as he turns away* “If you want to receive Jesus you must stand.”

The ol’ “do it my way or you can’t do it at all”!

What is wrong with these wolves, torturing and punishing those who desire reverence and who worship Our Lord in the way they see best?!

Anyone else feel bad for the girl? She looked so sad at the end. Let’s all say an Ave Maria for her and a Pater Noster for the bishop!

  8. mo7 says:

It didnt bother bishop hat the two kids before her take the Eucharist right out of his hand.

  9. happymom says:

I have several children who just returned from trips to Central America and Europe. The consensus is that we are very blessed to be Catholics in the US. There were very few kneelers in most churches, and if anyone knelt during the consecration, it was very likely an American. Yes, Francis has much to do with this, but this has been a long work in process by many like minded bishops. The very fact of the widespread presence and desire for the TLM here compared to the rest of the world is a huge blessing, and great sadness for the rest of the world. Oremus!

  10. Gaetano says:

    So much accompaniment.

  11. TheCavalierHatherly says:

This is how to make “intransigent rigid backwardists” out of the next generation.

  12. ThePapalCount says:

Satan wears a miter. Disgraceful. “The road to hell is paved with the skulls of bishops” … I can’t remember the saint who said that.

    [Everyone… except St. John Chrysostom.]

I didn’t know John Calvin became a bishop. You learn something new every day!

If, as we read in some fusty-dusty old book somewhere, at the very name of Jesus, every knee should bend in the heavens, on the earth, and under the earth, then why oh why is it so strange that the faithful should want to be on their knees when coming face to face with not just the Holy Name, but with the Holy Presence Himself? I cannot understand how this clericalist abuse continues to be permitted when Rome has already stated that Communion cannot be denied to those who wish to receive kneeling (Redemptionis Sacramentum §91).

As one commentator (who I don’t think is particularly traditional) noted a decade ago, “Denying Communion based on posture is petty, regardless of the circumstances. Generally, it should be left to the communicant to determine, and on that point, I agree with the CDWDS.”

  16. dPilk says:

Watch the video closely, he appears to be giving our Lord through intinction to the faithful IN THE HAND.

    PARDON PRAYER
My God, I believe, I adore, I hope and I love Thee! I beg pardon for those who do not believe, do not adore, do not hope and do not love Thee.

  17. redneckpride4ever says:

Before your update I called this guy Bishop John Calvin.

After reading the update, I’ve concluded that at least Calvin didn’t believe in transubstatiation, whereas this guy claims to and shows no respect for the sacred species.

Hence I apologize for insulting John Calvin. He may have been a heretic, but at least he was consistent.

  18. BeatifyStickler says:

    I bet he plays soccer!

  19. johnthemad says:

This post fills me with sadness. In my parish in Ontario there are prie-dieu to allow for kneeeling to receive Our Lord. I kneel in recognition of the sacredness of the act of receiving. Christ is God from God, Light from Light, and True God from True God. Any dignity I possess arises because, when I was an infant, He adopted me. Thanks be to God (and my faithful parents).

The young girl gets the meaning of the Eucharist; Bishop Joaquim Mol, not so much.

Christus vincit! Christus regnat! Christus imperat!

  20. mburduck says:

    This gets my dander up.

He must be a protestant at heart…

  21. Ages says:

    How rigid!

  22. Venerator Sti Lot says:

If Sua Excelência Reverendíssima Joaquim wishes to play at being Eastern Catholic, he should be feeding her Body and Blood together with a labida.

  23. Not says:

Our Cardinal allows open scandal. USCCB allows it. Priest here has his best “buddy” living in the Rectory. Parish Councel complained to the Cardinal. They were told, there is a shortage of Priest…too bad. Now the “Buddy” is listed as an Associate Minister. Just looked it up and USCCB approved it. The two of them push every liberal agenda you can think of.

  24. Oliveira says:

I understand Portuguese and been following this issue more closely. It’s getting a lot of attention nationwide in Brazil and backfiring spectacularly. Priests and lay people in many places are starting a campaign to have communion only in the hand and kneeling.

Due to the bad repercussion, the bishop issue a note basically lying, saying he did not deny communion (which the images clearly contradict).

  25. B says:

    God bless this young lady!

  26. hvratstpls2 says:

Something was stirred by Our Lord in Confirmation that was instilled in the soul of this young lady: the gifts of the Holy Spirit. All apply here in her action to kneel before the Lord in the Sacrament, fortitude, fear of the Lord stand out for me; but all others are there too. I shall pray for this true child of God that she may be evermore be strengthened to continue to witness and make her public confession of piety to Christ to the world. After all isn’t that what the Saints did?

  27. billt says:

    Bishop ‘Mal’.

  28. Orual says:

This is shameful. The Bishop walks away in disgust while the others usher her away like she’s mentally ill. I hope she doesn’t lose her faith because of the shabby treatment by members of the Church.

  29. Simon_GNR says:

If I let it, this could make me very angry. You say “jackass”: what I would say of this celebrant rhymes with “punt”!!

  30. TonyO says:

CDW has called such refusal “a grave abuse”. Nothing would be more appropriate than that the Ordinary of the diocese consult with the Vatican, and for them jointly to issue a severe reprimand and penalty to this aux bishop. Probably, he also needs to be demoted to something suitable to his level of understanding: say, cleaning the shoes and boots at a homeless shelter (i.e. a step lower than washing the feet of the poorest of the sheep.)

After 70 years (and more!) of bad seminaries, what do we expect? The future reform pope (which must happen, even if we cannot see when) will certainly have to address this. Probably, he will have to close a bunch of seminaries and fire most of the theologians in “Catholic” universities (along with taking away permission for them to call themselves Catholic).

  31. Long-Skirts says:

    TWO
    TRUTHS
    To the Nuclear
    Plant I went
    With wafered host
    I was hell-bent.
    Exposed the wafered un-
    Consecrated host
    To radiation
    Now nuked toast.
    Offered heretic
    “Taste and see.”
    “Oh no!” He cried
    “That’s not for me!”
    “But look. ” I said
    “Nothing’s changed..
    A still white wafered
    Host arranged.”
    “Though looks the same,
    Could do much harm!”
    The heretic knew
    Expressed alarm.
    As Catholics know
    A spiritual radiation
    Daily at Mass
    Transubstantiation!

  32. Elizium23 says:

Our Cathedral (and local parish) introduced prie-dieus to facilitate kneeling for Holy Communion. Our new ordinary’s first visible enhancement to his new Cathedral was to remove them, and commission a homily about how standing is the proper and correct posture and we should all be happy about it.

  33. robtbrown says:

Fascist liberalism, at least the Ecclesiastical version, seems alive and well in Brazil.

During my first year in Rome, c 1986-7, there were several Brazilian priests at the Convitto. They were all really good guys, but there was almost nothing about them that was Catholic.

  34. Imrahil says:

Seems like His Lordship reintroduced the good old slap-in-the-face-for-Confirmation.

(Only this time, the slap isn’t literal but the pain is, rather than vice versa as it should be.)
