Daily (not) Rome Shot 1093

In chessy news, Magnus Carlsen defeated Arjun Ergaisi and qualified for the Speed Chess Championship finals In Paris. He will play – online, not OTB – the unlikeable Hans Niemann in semis. I wonder if anyone will pay attention. (/irony) The last quarterfinal match will be on Friday (today) between Hikaru Nakamura and Ian Nepomniachtchi.

NB: I’ll hold comments with solutions ’till the next day so there won’t be “spoilers” for others.

The beautiful Our Lady of Guadalupe Shrine in LaCrosse, WI! Always a blessing to see it on these innerwebz and to recall its founder, Raymond Leo Card. Burke, in prayer and thanksgiving!

I must be missing something, because all I see is a mate in 3:

    1. Bh7+ Kh8
    2. Bg8+ (Rxg8 or Kxg8)
    3. Qh7#

    Have I erred? How?

You are on track! However, that pesky queen throws a spanner into your 3 move mate to force one extra move.

    1. Bh7+ Kh8
    2. Bg8+ Qh4
    3. Rxh4+ Kxg8
    4. Qh7#

Yes! The beautiful Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe in La Crosse; I have had the blessing of visiting there several times.
