Meanwhile, it’s just another day with the Jesuits of NYC.

There is a high level discussion going on at 1 Peter 5 between bright minds about.  You might have a look if you have some reading time.  You’ll have to follow a couple links “backwards” to see what sparked it.  HERE

Pres. Trump will attend the reopening of Notre-Dame of Paris on 7 Dec.  There is an interesting article about the contribution of Americans to the restoration.  HERE This seems to be part of the reason why 47 is going.  Francis is going to Corsica.

The Dominicans of Summit, who make great things for Christmas gifts, will close their online store from 16 December – 1 January.  So – PLEASE – go check what they have.

[NB: I’ll hold comments with solutions ’till the next day so there won’t be “spoilers” for others.]

I’m watching Game 9.  Yesterday was a humdinger which ended in a draw.  It had the commentators pretty excited and the commentary was engaging.  Magnus had a lot to say on this new Take Take Take platform.  There were lots of twists and turns in that game.   Game 9 has, on chess24, Anish Giri as one of the commentators.  He and his partner GM Arturs Neiksans are chatting a lot more about general chess issues, whereas Peter Leko and Robert Hess were deep into the lines of each move.   At the FIDE site, the pundits are David Howel and Jovanka Houska.    At Chessbase India there is also an all-Indian team.

I’m getting ready for Quads on Saturday.

My immediate response was “it’s the Jesuits, why be surprised?”
It is wrong to celebrate sin, but I was truly offended by the dancers in the sanctuary. We can only pray for these people that they turn away from sin and be faithful to the Gospel.

I am not much of a techie so I do not know what the USB cable issue is.

    Gay.
    God Bless the USA.
    The USB is also gay.

  6. Charles E Flynn says:

I first became aware of USB C cables and adapters that have chips in them when I looked into getting a USB to USB C adapter for my YubiKey security key. There are not a lot of adapters that YubiKey lists as known to work. When I bought an adapter cable at the local Apple Store, I was told that it had a chip.

Here is the AI response at Google that explains the chip:

A USB cable, specifically a USB-C cable, often has a small chip embedded in it called an “E-Marker” which allows the connected device to identify the cable’s capabilities, like its maximum power delivery and data transfer speeds, ensuring safe and optimal usage; essentially, it communicates with the device to verify the cable’s specifications and prevent potential damage from using an incompatible cable.

With all due respect to Pope-Francis-criticism,

I was just thinking about how the ceremony would be done if the Pope were present. And it seems that the Pope presiding on the throne while a bishop, even if he is the diocesan bishop, does the Church-dedication ritual just does not hold water. Pope Francis would have had to consecrate the Church, as Pope Benedict consecrated the Sagrada Familia.

And that just doesn’t do it, either. If a reconsecration of Sacré-Coeur should be necessary one day (I hope not), a Pope could do that, but Notre-Dâme, the church with such immensely national importance and whose construction was such an immensely national project, also technically the property of the French state, consecrated in the presence of the French president by a foreign bishop (even if the bishop of Rome) and foreign sovereign? No, that just doesn’t seem to go.

The diplomatic solution is to not go there, send the Cardinal Secretary-of-State with greetings, and preferably also have some other appointment to be excused.

So, I don’t know the details (such as whether the Cardinal Secretary-of-State, or at least the Nuncio, was present) but in the main: Pope Francis was right on this one.

  8. Imrahil says:

I might have looked that up: the Nuncio was present. The Cardinal Secretary-of-State apparently not. Well, the latter would have been a shade better, but still: that’s the way to go.
