Daily Rome Shot 1273 – Amazing

The relics of the Holy Veil of Mary and the Holy Cloak of Joseph brought by St Jerome returning from Jerusalem. Normally these kept at St Anastasia al Palatino they are currently available to the veneration of the faithful at San Giuseppe al Trionfale till March 19th. These relics are seldom seen in public.

Yesterday’s splashdown of SpaceX Crew-9 Dragon was spectacular. It was much enhanced by the participation of dolphins.

[NB: I’ll hold comments with solutions ’till the next day so there won’t be “spoilers” for others.]

In St. Louis, The American Cup continues. In the overall champion bracket today Hikaru Nakamura vs. Fabiano Caruana. In the Elimination bracket today Levon Aronian vs. Wesley So and Leinier Dominguez vs. Sam Sevian. In the women’s bracket Alice Lee vs. Tatev Abrahamyan.

  2. Thank you for the Lepanto Institute church music expose video. My NO parish still has not only all that but liturgical dancing too, run by a woman still only in her early 60s I think — therefore probably ready to do this for at least another generation. I used to think it was the better part of humility to sing along with the “All are welcome” stuff, but now I think I might join the clamp-mouthed rebellion in the pews all around me. Thanks again for the bracer.

Gregorian chant sounds better and better as I age.

One way to avoid paying into the Hymnal Industrial Complex is to stick to Gregorian Chant which is in the public domain.

I honestly thought the Lepanto Institute’s exposé was an early 1st April post, or maybe a sneak entry from the Eye of the Tiber…until I kept reading. Shivers. I am even more gratified now that our music at Mass tends to be more the antiphonal propers with an occasional processional and recessional hymn that is definitely not Haugen/Hass/OCP dreck. Although I have noticed the “OneLicense” tag line on our printouts (no bound hymnals since COVID, and no seasonal Missalettes), so even this isn’t immune. The tentacles reach far and deep, it seems!
