“Circus meus totus simul et simiae.”

“Vidi cuncta quæ fiunt sub sole, et ecce universa vanitas et afflictio spiritus.
Perversi difficile corriguntur, et stultorum infinitus est numerus.”

First heard “Not my circus, not my monkey” from Fr. Chad Ripperger. “That’s not your monkey.”

Apropos “Fr. Z swag,” any chance somebody could recreate the bumper sticker that says “Make The Mass Latin Again”? The most visually appealing one on Etsy has been out of stock forever and I checked it’s unfortunately not being restocked.

  3. BW says:

The photo where His Holiness is looking at the ring is worthy of a caption competition.

    “It’s smaller than I thought”

“I really want to punch ××××× with this, but I better not”

Humour is of course cultural. Where I come from, such a statement does not conform with the respect which should be shown to the Supreme Pontiff.

  5. Loquitur says:

Voces in aurem sui multae susurrant. Orate ut Una tantum attenderet.

This apparently is traditional, see Greg Dipippo’s discussion on New Liturgical Movement.

All the monkeys aren’t in the zoo, i.e.”Pope Lío!¡Vaya lío!
If Ali-Foreman was the “Thrilla in Manila”, then Pope Francis and the … wealthy? complacent? might be the “Lío in da’ Rio”.” Father Z. – 27 July 2013

    BW,

    Presumably not “Frodo cecidit”…

But can anyone suggest one or another good historical overview of Supreme Pontifical attendances at (and interactions with) circuses? Assorted film-clips spring to mind, but, sadly, no depth of context.

  10. EAW says:

I notice Pope Leo XIV wears the pallium as it should be worn, resting on the shoulders, not dangling around the neck as I have seen too often. I also noticed, when he appeared in the loggia of St. Peter’s after his election, that he wore his stole the same way. Mere details to some, but I think they indicate proper reverence towards the liturgy.
