Today is the observance of the Dedication of Santissma Trinita dei Pellegrini, The Parish, in Rome.
The true day is 12 June, but it was transferred because of the Octave of Pentecost.
12 June 1616 – 409 years.
Hence, the dedication candles, which mark the places where the walls were anointed with Sacred Chrism when the church was consecrated, have been lighted.
In chessy news, WR had a bad day. Nepo and Hikaru were late for blitz and wound up with something like 30 seconds on their clocks. They lost. So did “Puer”. Flagged.

NB: This guy has been Archbishop of Milan since 2017…
The Archdiocese of Milan with 2 million residents will ordain one priest this year. The times are waxing late yet the Church is diverting its energies into eternal @Synod_va and persecution of Latin Mass supporters. @pontifex Their Archbishop with much to pray about. pic.twitter.com/DOjpxx12fO

“Young people, be not afraid…”
Except, they aren’t afraid to dedicate their lives to Christ. They’re afraid of mediocrity and compromise with the world. They’re afraid of wasting their efforts, of becoming paper-pushers instead of priests, or being side-lined and maligned by those who are supposed to act like successors of the Apostles. They’re afraid of squandering their lives as middle managers for an NGO charity.
Try offering the Catholic Faith. See what happens.
I am from the Diocese of Syracuse, and because of the dedication and hard work of a team of laypeople, we priests have been offering the TLM at St. Mary’s since 1989 ! God has given us gracious Bishops. The sincerest thank you to Bishop Lucia who both supports and offers the TLM.
We know how fortunate we are. God has blessed us so. FrW
I believe (and hope) there many bishops out there who are not actively hostile to the TLM. A lot of these are probably indifferent to it; however, they recognize that such communities thrive and grow and, most importantly, bring young people into (or back to) the Church. For this reason, they try to navigate the ins and outs of TC to allow the TLM in their dioceses.
I work in a country in which less than 1% of the population is Catholic, perhaps close to 0.6%. This year we have 1 new priest ordained, but somehow, we see ourselves as not doing enough, and a bit lost in finding vocations (I work in the Seminary.)
Difficult to imagine the level of frustration they should feel in Milan.
Who knew the archbishop and so many of his peers were such avid readers of Belloc? If we could just get them to stop seeing as “guidance” that which the author intended as a cautionary tale:
“The Catholic Church is an institution I am bound to hold divine—but for unbelievers a proof of its divinity might be found in the fact that no merely human institution conducted with such knavish imbecility would have lasted a fortnight.”
“I am from the Diocese of Syracuse, and because of the dedication and hard work of a team of laypeople, we priests have been offering the TLM at St. Mary’s since 1989 ! God has given us gracious Bishops. The sincerest thank you to Bishop Lucia who both supports and offers the TLM.”
I’m glad of this – but I thought I saw an article within the past day or two that severe restrictions were about to be imposed on the TLM in the Syracuse diocese, and not only that, nut restrictions on the manner of celebrating the NO Mass rite (e.g., no more Ad Orientem). I hope this is not the case.
