Wherein Fr. Z, who died a painful death, is … STILL ALIVE?

Long time readers might remember that I was killed a while ago.

I have been a character in some sci-fi books.

HERE

Chris Kennedy has been turning out some highly entertaining sci-fi books in which he includes “red shirts”.  After I read the first series, I contacted Kennedy and became a “black shirt” in a couple of the books.

As I wrote before, Kennedy’s books are not exactly Tolstoy… or even Azimov.

They are sort of … Galaxy Quest meets The Magnificent Seven meets Stargate meets Indiana Jones.

Kennedy’s first book, is here: Red Tide: The Chinese Invasion of Seattle (Occupied Seattle Book 1)

Eventually, I was killed.

Or was I?

The second book of a trilogy that Kennedy is working on now is out and it seems that …

I’M NOT DEAD AFTER ALL!

As a matter of fact, when I (alive) am discovered, I have a pretty funny line, which people paying attention to the Church will understand.

Here’s the moment I (alive) am found:

“Let’s go,” Nightsong added, motioning Calvin through the doorway into the new chamber. As he entered the room, Calvin saw a familiar figure off to the side.

“Father Zuhlsdorf!” he cried, running to where the priest was zip-tied to a chair. The priest had seen better days and, judging by the wounds and bandages, had been subjected to an enormous amount of torture. Father Zuhlsdorf’s head was on his chest, but when he heard his name, he lifted it and tried to focus bleary eyes on Calvin. “But… you’re dead,” Calvin said. “Nothing so exciting… as a return from… the Existential Peripheries,” the priest replied.

So… it seems that I survive!

Or … DO I?

You’ll need to find out on your own.

Anyway… the new book is called…

Beyond the Shroud of the Universe (Codex Regius Book 2)

UPDATE:

Great battle descriptions.  Just sayin’  It’s hard to write that stuff.

There is hope for the world! I’ll have to get these books! :)

  2. Elizabeth D says:

I looked at the preview. There is quite a bit of profanity.

[There is a pretty heavy military component in the books. It may come as a shock to some people that people in the military occasionally say naughty words. While I prefer not to talk that way, not everyone in the military shares that preference. I’m reminded of the first big battle scene in the most recent “Avenger” movie between Captain America and Ironman. HERE ]

  5. Maximilia says: Father is a Time Lord. Called it.

    Wellll… we shall see!

For one thing, Time Lords have two hearts. Lot’s of people deny that I have even one. I’m not telling.

  6. Charles E Flynn says:

Dead people are notorious for neglecting to update their Amazon wish lists.

    [Consider it done.]

    Fr. Z's Gold Star Award

  7. Elizabeth D says:

yes but also Fr Z, it seemed like there was nothing thoughtful about your role in the story, it was just pure Zsploitation. [I can live with that… or die as the case maybe.]

    Fr. Z's Gold Star Award

Fr Z does have a heart, I have met him and he is a kind man, and he does not deserve to get shot with a laser gun when he has been dead recently and tortured.

Good morning! I followed the link to amazon, but you can not by the book (Red Tide) it says “This title is not currently available for purchase”. I have to take a trip and this is a promising read for it. Can I get it somewhere else?

[I updated those links for Red Tide. Give another try.]

  9. idelsan says:

Update: you can buy it, as long it’s not following father’s Z link.

Well, there’s fiction and then there’s just tall tales. Fr Z in the *Seattle* archdiocese? I guess that would explain being tied to a chair and roughed up. Rosa Klebb would be friendlier to 007. An actual invasion by red hoards of my home town would be welcomed by hoards of blue painted naked bicyclists. Actually the welcome has been ongoing for years.

  11. Dr. Edward Peters says:

If I go to your funeral, will you come to mine?

    [It’s a deal.]

  12. Dr. Edward Peters: I always take Yogi’s advice in the matter of going to other people’s funerals.

  13. Supertradmum says:

Father, I do not think you would want to be a Time Lord. You would have to put up with either a ditsy dark-haired female companion, or worse, some blond Amazon. Plus, your “sets” are better than the Beebs. I remember the earlier Dr. Whos when all the sets were or seemed like cardboard, and when one actor shut a door in the Tardis, everything woobled.

Stick to being killed….and coming back not as a Time Lord.

    [I wouldn’t mind having a TARDIS.]
