A trip to China for Pope Benedict?
Today in Adnkronos we read the following surprising report:
I nearly fell off my chair.As Adnkronos has learned in the environs of the Vatican, the Secretariate of State is supposed to have received from the Chinese organizers of a large art exhibt "Leonardo da Vinci at Tienanmen" a message in which, in concomitance with the launch of the exhibition, a reference is made to a visit of Benedict XVI in China during autumn.
In my humble opinion, the Holy Father should stick to his original intent and do more of governing and keep travels to an absolute minimum, no matter how good the speeches in Brazil were.

Aventicus: Sure, valid point. However, I think he has so far done a good job governing by giving attention and speaking as supreme legislator from Rome. The Church is always in need, more or less, everywhere, all the time.

Comment by Maureen — 15 May 2007 @ 1:02 amI had thought that the Vatican tried negotiations to permit a Papal trip to China by Pope Benedict but that the negotiations were a failure.
I agree that Pope Benedict should keep his travels to a minimum, if only to help preserve his health, but China is a major exception. Christianity in China is the story of the 21st century. A fully free Papal visit to China could give the Church there much needed moral support and help ignite further evangelization.
Comment by Dan — 15 May 2007 @ 1:34 amI think Benedict’s presence in China would be related in a very profound manner to his “governance” of the Church, due to both the symbolic nature of the trip, but also the chance to work out face to face at least a path to a solution to the current state of the Church there.
By the way, I am not Spartacus, I heard that Spiderman, Transgendered, although of incredibly questionable content, was still better than Spiderman 3.
