  1. Ken says:

    That’s right!

    Go Tigers!

  2. Tim Ferguson says:

    Bless you, boys!

  3. Khaled says:

    And it’s not even Christmas!

As a Boston Red Sox fan, I would like to thank Manger Jim Leyland and all the players on the Detroit Tigers

  4. Pius VII says:

Wait, Father, I thought you were a Twins fan. Are you just reporting this box score purely out of spite for the Yankees? Mwahahahahaha!

  5. andrew says:

How come your beloved twins gave us no help?

Tell them to stop hitting into TRIPLE plays!

At any rate TIGERS WIN a series!…

They haven’t done that since they swept your beloved twinkies in mid July.

  6. I have to balance my desire to see the Twins advance in the standings against the sheer glee at seeing the Yankees go down so very hard.

  7. Brian Day says:

    “seeing the Yankees go down”
Yup. The Angels took two out of three from the Yankees last week. :-)

  8. Paul says:

    What does all that mean?

    Here’s one for you:

    England Innings
    281 for 8 (50.0 overs)
    India Innings
    239 all out (48.1 overs)

  9. Rob in Maine says:

I’m for the Red Sox…and anyone who beats those damn Yankees!

    Go Tigers!

Tonight the Sox play them at Yankee Stadium (or as we call it in Red Sox Nation, The House of Pain).

  10. Katherine Therese says:

Yay! I’ve always loved the Tigers, even when they were bad. Now if we can only get the Illitch family to buy the Lions…

  11. Sam says:

Not a good night for NY sports all around, as the Mets went down 9-2. Can’t wait to check out the NY Post headlines this morning!

  12. Elizabeth V says:

    Go Tigers!

  13. Vincentius says:

momento patre-et alii – Deus fanaticus Ianchium est-

  14. Tim from St. Agnes says:

Does the Second Rule of Engagement on the Moto Proprio apply to Yankee losses?

  15. Lynne says:

The Yankees are saints on earth, especially Derek Jeter.

It is interesting to note that they haven’t won a World Series since she-who-must-not-be-named became one of the senators from NY.

  16. dcs says:

To think that the Phillies could have hired Jim Leyland . . . grr.

  17. Tony says:

    Paul –
It’s a summary of a baseball box score for a game between the New York Yankees (evil) and the Detroit Tigers (morally neutral). The visiting team (in this case, New York) is always on top of the box score because they bat first. The string of nine numbers is how many runs each team scored per inning, and the last three numbers for each team are the total numbers of runs, hits and errors, respectively, generated by each team for the entire game. Therefore, the Yankees were shut out on three hits and committed one error, while the Tigers scored 16 runs on 20 hits. The X indicates that there was no bottom half of the ninth inning because the game had already been decided.

  18. Paul says:

Cheers. They’ve started to show baseball on Canal+ (a European cable network). I might check it out if I have the time, but I fear the games take a long time. Rather like cricket in that respect.

  19. Bruce T. says:

Those who hate the NY Yankees (irrationally of course!) as many haters of the Catholic Church should remember the Yankees are the team of tradition. As St. Peter moved his see to Rome from Antioch, the Yankees moved from Baltimore (the first episcopal see in the US) to New York. Unlike the various denominations, I mean teams, they do not change their uniform every few years for the sake of marketing. There is a strong team discipline and sure knowledge of why they exist. (I would go go but for lack of time end here.)

  20. Khaled says:

    C’mon, Bruce!
Attempting to marry the Yankees with the Catholic Church? Tisk-tisk!

    Go Red Sox!

  21. Fr. Scott Bailey, C.Ss.R. says:

    Vincentius

You wrote: Deus fanaticus Ianchium est.

Therfore, after due consideration and consultation, the Holy Office of the Inquisition declares all your writings to be on the Index of forbidden books and of those who hold such opinions: Anathama sit! (That would include Lynne and Bruce T. inter alii.)

Verily, verily I say unto you, the Lord loveth the Red Sox!!!

  22. jarhead 462 says:

    World Series records:
    New York Yankees: 26-13
    Detroit Tigers: 4-6
Number of fans who wish their team were 26-13?: All of ‘em
    (the icy chill of reality)

  23. Vincentius says:

    Oh Holy Inquisitor Fr.Bailey:
In the name of Lynne, Bruce T. and Jarhead-Don’t burn the books yet- Gott mit uns

  24. Fr. Scott Bailey, C.Ss.R. says:

Now Vincentius, don’t go confusing the truth with the facts.
Just a little bit of mercy being shown to help you see the error of your ways.

BTW, put those brooms away. There will be no sweeping this week.

  25. jarhead 462 says:

OH, OH Fr. Bailey! could you hand me a dustpan?

  26. Fr. Scott Bailey, C.Ss.R. says:

    Coming your way. Sigh.
