  1. Joan Moore says:

Fr. Z, you just gave me a big laugh! There I was, not feeling too good, (just sent an email to my boss letting him know I will not be out to work until next Tuesday because the recent stress on the job caused my blood pressure to soar), and I saw this!

    The resemblance is striking!!

  2. Geoffrey says:

I want to say that’s mean, but why can’t I keep from laughing?

  3. Andrea Brown says:

Hilarious! I have one small suggestion. Perhaps a bottle of orange dye would work wonders on the gray hair.

  4. Aidan says:

    A slavishly accurate translation…

  5. ROFLOLSMT HAHAHAHAHAHA! I can tell they aren’t identical twins though.

  6. Charles says:

Poor Archlayman Williams! I had the priveledge of hearing him lecture on the temptations of Christ last year at the International Patristics Conference. It was a thouroughly erudite and orthodox presentation, and he made wonderful use of the writings of Cassian, Augustine and Evagrius to show that Christ was truly “tempted as we are.” If only his ecclesiastical leadership were as solid and learned as that lecture was! He must live with a continual cognitive dissonance…

  7. cathguy says:

    Wow…

I REALLY want to see Dr. Williams play drums now. Maybe they could start a group called “Prelates Live at Lambeth.”

  8. Jenny Z says:

Since we’re on the topic of muppets, here’s a video my friends and I have been giggling over for days…

  9. The physical resemblance is there, no doubt, but the Archbishop seems too ineffectual and cautious in carrying out his duties. You cannot say the same for Animal!

  10. Jenny,

God forgive you if this inspires someone to use it next Sunday as the opening song of the parish celebration of the Lord’s supper.

  11. Deusdonat says:

    Hmmm….

  12. TJM says:

“It’s time to play the music, it’s time to light the lights, it’s time to meet the muppets on the Muppet Show tonight.” Ah, Father Z. you
brought back so many happy memories. Tom

  13. Thomas says:

Fr. Z’s next “SEPARATED AT BIRTH” post will compare N. H. “Bishop” Gene Robinson with the Purple Teletubby.

  14. The more I look at that man the more he reminds me of Jack Nicholson in The Shinning. It is the eyebrows and the wild look in the eyes.

  15. BRIIIIILLLLIIIIAAAAANNNT!!!!!!!

    ROFL!

    Fr. Deacon Daniel

  16. Zach Frey says:

    The resemblance *is* uncanny.

Although I’ve previously noted a distinct resemblance to Archibald Asparagus: http://www.znfrey.com/blog/2007/04/rowans-top-ten.html

    peace,
    Zach

  17. FrGregACCA says:

In all fairness, Father, I’ve seem some pictures of Pope Benedict in which facial expressions were at least as bizarre.

BTW, I like your anti-spam thingy.

  18. Atlanta says:

Fr. Z., you are incredible! LOL! You are a great reason for lapsed Catholics to return to the church. I hope you make an effort to reach out to those people, they sure could learn a thing or two from you. :-)

  19. Not to mention this scary figure, to whom His Grace Rowan also bears a striking resemblance.

  20. roydosan says:

Isn’t the second picture Radovan Karadzic in disguise?

  21. Fr Dan B says:

    It’s not easy leading Gene . . .

  22. Fr Ray Blake says:

The photograph was taken when he saw the one supporter he had at Lambeth.

  23. Rob says:

Well, it is obvious that these are two photos of the same person. Now we are forced to bring up a topic which has been beaten to death more than once in Anglo-Catholic circles:

    Are the muppet’s orders valid?

  24. Woody Jones says:

Do you think maybe +Rowan will decide that life would be easier after all as a simple Roman priest?

  25. Mitch says:

And to out first caller, A FREE eyebrow wax!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  26. Paula says:

Down with puppetry, and all its pomp, and all its works!

  27. Father Bartoloma says:

If Henry VIII could have seen into the future…

  28. George says:

    Please pray for this man.

  29. Johnny Domer says:

(With laughter having been thoroughly enjoyed…)

Oh Father Z…I bet some of those saints who desperately attempted to avoid being appointed bishops would have had blogs and made hyperecumenically-incorrect (the stuffy, old, liberal-cleric equivalent of “politically incorrect”) posts like these. Keep it up!

Charity is defined, Mister Dante, as love of God above all things and love of neighbor (i.e. desiring his good) for the sake of God…so I’m pretty sure that comparing somebody’s appearance in jest to that of a muppet is not a “total lack of charity.” If Father Z had said that he hoped the dear druid would choke on his own bile, die a torturous death, and suffer eternal hellfire; then yes, that probably would indicate a total lack of charity. However, I’m guessing Fr. Z probably actually wishes the him many blessings, a functional spine, full conversion to the Catholic Faith, eternal salvation, etc. etc. etc.

If you’re joking, then I will humbly submit to the title of “ninny.” And I won’t accuse anyone of a total lack of charity if they do (goodness knows I deserve it)!

  30. Chris says:

Father, that certainly is NOT in the spirit of Vatican II!!!

  31. patrick f says:

    wow… just wow :)

  32. Ioannes Andreades says:

Is he using a backpack? Can somebody buy the man a decent briefcase?!

My bet is that he likes the feel of hair aound his head but has ethical problems with ermine.

  33. PMcGrath says:

    Father Z:

You may need a new comparison, if this pic is anything to go by (courtesy of the new blog Anglican Musings)

  35. TNCath says:

Inspired by this juxtaposition, I have come to the conclusion that the theme from “The Muppet Show” has a direct correlation for the entire Anglican mess, with all it’s window dressing of Catholicism

    Consider the lyrics:

It’s time to play the music
It’s time to light the lights
It’s time to meet the Muppets on the Muppet Show tonight.

Why do we always come here
    I guess we’ll never know
It’s like a kind of torture
To have to watch the show

  36. I think I better close the combox for the night.
