TO: NATIONAL, POLITICAL AND RELIGION EDITORS:

Archbishop Burke, a Top Official in the Vatican, Gives Candid Interview Dealing with President Obama, VP Joe Biden, Communion, U.S. Bishops, and the Guilt of American Catholics in the Last Election

WASHINGTON, March 24 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ The following was released today by Randall Terry, founder of Operation Rescue.

On March 2, 2009, His Excellency, Archbishop Raymond L. Burke, Prefect of the Apostolic Signatura, granted an unprecedented interview to Randall Terry. Mr. Terry will show the entire interview (approx 12 minutes) at the Press Club on Wednesday, March 25, at 10:00 A.M.

The questions ranged from how the Church should deal with pro-abortion politicians like Vice President Biden receiving Communion, the failure of certain U.S. bishops to obey and enforce Canon Law, what faithful laity should say to errant bishops, the guilt of Catholics who voted for Obama, and what we must do to bring reform to America and the Church.

In light of the recent invitation of Notre Dame to have President Obama speak at commencement, this interview is very timely.

Randall Terry states:

"Everyone who has seen this interview is stunned at Archbishop Burke’s candor and clarity. His words thunder, and are without equivocation.

"As one of the Pope’s most powerful Prefects, we believe his words signal the Vatican’s intention to deal more directly with American bishops, priests, and laity, who are betraying the lives of the innocent unborn, and Catholic Truth by their actions or by their silence.

"Since Archbishop Burke is the head of the papal courts, his words carry enormous weight concerning Church law. If cases are brought against individuals on these various matters, he is the "chief justice" in the Vatican.

"The faithful will be strengthened by his words; the errant and rebellious will be warned."

(err, mmm, Father, I think your code is showing…)

Let us hope this interview reverberates at all “Catholic” universities. If Obama is a gentleman, he will send his regrets to ND “upon careful deliberation.” Apparently Obama’s campaign promise to “find a compromise” doesn’t include compromise from his side.

  2. at long last the battle lines are being drawn.

  3. Chris M says:

Heh.. anyone who thought +Burke was being ‘promoted’ to get him away from the US, will be shocked to find that he was actually PROMOTED and given a wider audience and a more authoritative voice..

  4. Cel says:

Archbishop Burke just makes me grin.

    Love him.

    That’s all.

Wow! I’m looking forward very much to hearing/reading His Excellency, Archbishop Burke’s words…can’t wait!

  7. Mark says:

I seriously doubt it but I must raise the [“dumb”] question nonetheless: Any chance this may be broadcast on CSPAN? Wouldn’t that be amazing?! It would be nice to see “live” unedited coverage by the press for once on these matters. It will be interesting to see what is “parsed” by the press, no matter how predictable.

  8. Central Valley says:

I will forword the video to Bp. John T. Steinbock, diocese of Fresno. Unfortunately, it will end up in the trash there. Party before the Faith in Fresno. Two more years until retirement………

  9. Joe Gallaher says:

Can anyone attend or only press.I could and would love to be there

  10. Hands up if you want +Burke to get a red hat? :)

  11. Willebrord says:

Ooh, ah. I can’t wait to see what Burke had to say. I’ll also tell my mom, who is a Marian Catechist.

  12. Al says:

Hopefully a powerful hammer is about to drop. I eagerly await it.

    God be praised

  13. ED says:

Watch the liberals go after Archbishop Burke because he dares to associate himself with Randall Terry.

  14. God bless Archbishop Burke.
A red hat for him !

  15. Flambeaux says:

So how do non-press, cable-free households get a hold of one of these shiny DVDs? Anyone know?

  16. chironomo says:

I hope… sincerely hope… that this is a REAL admonition and not another speech full of “you should” and “Bishops may…” type of proclamations. I am all in favor of the “YOU MUST” and “BISHOPS WILL…” type of wording. I would also not object to the possibility, as you suggest, that there be cases brought before the Apostolic Signatura in the event that such admonitions are not heeded… that would spell the beginning of the end of collegiality as we know it. Good riddance…

  17. Deo volente says:

Hands up if you want +Burke to get a red hat? :)

Michael, my hand went through the ceiling! ;-)

  18. I’m not finding any reference to this at the sites listed in the piece Father has listed here… does anyone have any links for more information?

What concerns me is about the fact that this is coming from Terry and not from the Church itself. Is it possible that Terry is misconstruing a private conversation as a doctrinal declaration? I would think any official statement would come from Rome and not from a third party.

Or am I missing/misunderstanding something here?

  19. Al says:

Archbishop Burke reminds me of this man and speech http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cRj01LShXN8&feature=related

  20. chironomo says:

    The Other David;

I share your concern, but it seems that this is not a “private conversation”, but an on-the-record interview. Abp. Burke surely knows the difference. However, this is not by any means an official document, but an interview, and Mr. Terry’s assumption that “his words signal the Vatican’s intention to deal more directly with American bishops, priests, and laity, who are betraying the lives of the innocent unborn, and Catholic Truth by their actions or by their silence” may be a bit of a stretch. It is always dangerous to second guess the Vatican’s “intention”…

  21. Joseph Mary says:

Consider my hand up in favor of Archbishop Burke.

  22. @ chironomo

Thank you for your response. What you say makes sense. It seems that one can get a copy of the transcript so long as they agree not to release the transcript before 1030am 3/25 (which I have promised to do, so I will not share it here).

  23. Laura Lowder says:

I want to know whether/how/where I can see this, read it, stream it, whatever.

  24. Laura Lowder says:

Like The Other David, I can’t find reference to this interview in the links posted – both appearing to be Randall Terry’s sites. Anyone else have anything better?

  25. @ Laura Lowder
From the email I received when I received my advanced copy, they are going to publish it to http://www.ahumbleplea.com after the press conference tomorrow at 1030am EST. Nobody is allowed to publish the contents before then

  26. Kathy says:

The video will be available at http://www.humbleplea.com. The link provided earlier was incorrect. God bless Abp Burke.

  27. irishgirl says:

    I’m trying this again….

My hand’s up for Archbishop Burke’s red hat, too!

Al-I watched the ‘Band of Brothers’ speech that you posted….gave me the chills!

I thought you have posted the excommunciation scene from the film ‘Becket’…but this is good, too.

I eagerly await what the Archbishop has to say!

  28. Joe Gallaher says:

Father. There is a transcrip up a pewsitter.com.I read it once and it is very good
