UPDATE 18 March 12:52 GMT:
A reader sent this:
I read that the AFP communique was disinformation and that the man was shouting against pro-choice groups.
HERE.
___________
Pray for the Pope.
He will be more and more under attack of every kind.
From the AFP:
Man screams abuse at Pope Benedict XVI
March 18, 2010
THE Pope was verbally abused as he gave his weekly address in St Peter’s Square yesterday.
A man, apparently in his early 50s, shouted "bulls***, bulls***" while stretching an accusatory arm towards Benedict XVI, after approaching the barrier in front of the Pope’s podium.
Vatican police forcibly removed the man, still shouting, from the square.
The Pope went on to announce that he would "soon" send a pastoral letter to Irish Catholics over the paedophile priest scandal that has rocked Ireland.
The address was the first of the year to be held in St Peter’s Square, which was bathed in early spring sunshine.
Security for the 82-year-old Pope was tightened after a woman knocked him to the ground at midnight mass on Christmas Eve.
However, Vatican authorities said it would be impossible to entirely protect the Pope without putting a wall between him and the masses who come to see him.
Pray for the Pope and help others to do so as well.
This new abuse crisis is only a symptom, of the actual problem, the moral decomposition (cant think of correct English word) of Western Civilization which I think cannot be universally cured.
Hopefully Africa and the East – China and India will emerge in the coming centuries as the new bastions of Christianity.
St. Michael guard the pope!
Continued prayers for the Holy Father.
Was it this bad for Venerable John Paul II? I mean except for the whole nearly successful assassination attempt. I didn’t start paying attention to The Faith (mea maxima culpa) until about 1998. There was no EWTN in my house, it was all liberal politics and for some reason Rush Limbaugh (my dad loves to yell at the TV.)
What pain that man must be in! What sorrow must be in his heart to seek out and curse at the Holy Father. We must remember to pray for the lost souls that are held captive by the deception of the enemy. I am sure their souls thirst for the truth.
What good must be in our Pope! What huge strides for Christ he must be making for Satin to attack him so violently and relentlessly lately.
“Was it this bad for Venerable John Paul II?”
I can recall protesters during apostolic voyages around the world, usually holding up signs regarding woman priests, contraception, abortion, etc. But this is the first I have ever heard of someone shouting such horrible language at the Holy Father.
Lord Jesus, shelter our Holy Father the Pope
under the protection of Thy Sacred Heart.
Be Thou his light, his strength and his consolation.
Saviour of the world, come to his aid.
Saints Peter and Paul, come to his aid.
Saint Joseph, come to his aid.
Saint Benedict, come to his aid.
Benedicto Summo Pontifici et universali patri: pax vita et salus perpetua!
June 29th would be a perfect day to distribute the lapel pins Oremus pro Pontefice with the image of Pope Benedict XVI.
Oh yes, this Pope is more and more under attack of every kind – people shouting bad words, TV criticizing him, newspaper articles taking the side of queers shouting their anger against him, etc.
Our Holy Father certainly needs our prayers!
Pope Benedict is a Great man, I Pray for him daily.
” The holy father will have much to suffer” words from Fatima
I recall that his first words after being named Pope were to the effect of “Pray that I don’t flee the wolves.”
Prophetic.
Rorate-caeli has an article up today reflecting support to the pope from Fr. Franz Schmidberger, Superior of the FSSPX in Germany, and my comment is as follows:
And I want to make it clear that by asking these questions I intend no disrespect to the Holy Father but I truly believe the FSSPX is a valuable resource the Pope could use in his efforts at reform if only they had papal approval. At some point in time, it seems to me, we need a unifed front against the attacks of the Evil One and that point, I submit, is NOW.
At times I wish people call question the evolving paradigm of the pyschological/psychiatric profession and the “wisdom” of treating as a “science” and as a credible platform to steer individuals, institutions and society at large. In the current secular climate, this profession stands only to weaken (and relativize) moral absolutes. It promotes and gives justification to the hyper-individualism we see all around us.
The Church officials follow “professional advice” in lieu of time tested moral theology (shame on them), thirty years ago and finds this “advice” as now erroneous (i.e. sex with minors is okay/sexual deviancy can be cured)since the profession’s position has evolved and continues to evolve. Yet we hold Church officials to the current DSM!!!
Does anyone question the role and influence of the therapeutic profession on society? Why does it continue to hold a role that goes uncriticized in public discourse? I suspect politicizing this “science” is a valuable tool forward the agenda of the cultural elite.
My two cents…
I pray daily for our Holy Father, that he will have the strength to withstand the attacks of his enemies, both within and without the Church.
If I was at that audience, I would have assisted the security men and thrown that guy out bodily!
Mary, Mother of the Church, protect the Holy Father.
St. Michael the Archangel, Guardian Angel of the Pope, unsheathe your heavenly sword!
St. Joseph, be at his side.
St. Benedict, be at his side.
It’s been a rough week on several fronts. I’ll ask the schola to sing the chant version of “Oremus pro Pontifice nostro…” on Sunday.

Sorry I don’t find anything in english
This is horrible, as the world loses their patience and basic respect for individuals, the Holy Father will be more and more insulted and perhaps attacked. I really wish they would reinstate the Palatine or Noble Guard as extra protection all around the Pope and return to the use of the Sedia. The Holy Father needs to appear more out of reach to people in order to protect his physical well being. Maybe not the perfect way, and no way will be, but it is better than him standing and processing down aisles in harm’s way.
