Almost had a heart attack thinking tis was serious, glad to know that this is just Larry playing around :)- perhaps Kat should have ‘most gullable’ award for next years cannonball awards.

  2. apagano says:

Even better when you go to the Acts of the Apostacy website.

  3. irishgirl says:

I hope this is not a ‘real’ church sign….it would be funny if it weren’t so tragic!

  4. LarryD says:

Thanks for the link, Fr. Explains the spike in visitors! ;-)

  5. Emilio III says:

Irishgirl, check out the Acts of the Apostasy blog. It’s a funny dialog between the signs of “Our Lady, Queen of Giant Puppets (A Gender Free Catholic Community)” and “St Michael, Crusher of Heretics (Catholic Church)”. (Now THAT’s a good church name.)

  6. Maggie says:

Go read the whole “exchange” over at the AoA blog. It’s a hilarious discourse between “Our Lady, Queen of Giant Puppets” parish and “St. Michael, Crusher of Heretic” parish.

and by the way, St. Michael, Crusher of Heretics… pray for us!

  7. Catherine says:

    “A gender free Catholic Community?”

    Don’t they mean “gender-neutral?” Or “gender-inclusive…?” Whatever.

Oh, what a tangled web we weave….when first we practice to deceive.

  8. doanli says:

I used to have a link to a website to make your own church sign, but I lost it a long time ago. (spent many fun minutes there!)

  9. LarryD says:

doanli – this is the one I used.

    Church Sign Maker

  10. AnAmericanMother says:

Isn’t it “Hammer of Heretics” (Malleus Hereticorum)? Or is that just St. Anthony?

The church sign generator is a hoot. Sadly, Our Lady of Giant Puppets could be almost any Episcopal church.

  11. doanli says:

    Thanks, LarryD!

The one that I used to go to even had a mosque sign generator. (Guess they got death threats and took it down.)

  12. EXCHIEF says:

Isn’t this the Church that O Brien and a few (make that many) 60’s era nuns go to?

  13. irishgirl says:

Yep, I went on ‘Acts of the Apostasy’ and saw the ‘battle of the church signs’. What a hoot!

Good job, LarryD! I see you got an award from The Crescat-her ‘Catholic Cannonball Awards’!

    Too funny….

  14. rakesvines says:

I have a hard time keeping up with these developments. Is there a place where I can see the complete list of new Marian titles or do I simply add that one at the end of the litany of the BVM?

  15. LarryD says:

irishgirl – I’ll have you know that I worked very hard for that award! I cajoled, bribed and threatened my way to the top of the “Snarkiest Blog” heap, crushing fellow bloggers underfoot while ignoring their cries of pain and agony.

And thanks for visiting my blog!

  16. Charles E Flynn says:

Of course she is the Queen of the Giant Puppets. What did you expect? She spent her entire childhood and adolescence as the Princess of the Giant Puppets.

  17. AnAmericanMother says:

    Hey, Larry D,

The clown car logo is a nice touch.

Order of the Mystic Shrine maybe?

  18. Yubbly says:

“This means that the two dioceses must have had correspondence and that the Bishop of Frejus-Toulon was satisfied with what he received from Melbourne.”

Except he passed through Farnborough first, so who knows WHAT is going on. Hence the name “Alcuin” and tag “OSB”…even though he certainly does not live nor dress like a monk anymore.

  19. IsabellaofSpain says:

So funny yet sad. I actually know of a parish where this sign would be quite appropriate. Here is to hoping that sign is fake and that the one thing that brightened my day shouldn’t have made me feel sorry for the poor souls of that parish.

However, I pray daily for the souls of people like this.

  20. dcs says:

I think a real modernist parish would be called “Christ Our Puppet” rather than admit that Our Lady was Queen of anything.

  21. Augustine Terra Mariae says:

For the record, the building pictured there is an Episcopalian worship building on University Boulevard in Silver Spring, Maryland. They usually have nicer looking structures …

  22. Mariana says:

    ““A gender free Catholic Community?”

    Don’t they mean “gender-neutral?” Or “gender-inclusive…?” Whatever.”

    Perhaps “gender-free” as in “no parishoners! : ) !

  23. irishgirl says:

LarryD-ha, very funny! Yes, I listened to the audio on The Crescat’s blog, listing all the winners.

Man, I wish I were that creative….I’m lucky I know how to do email….

  24. JPM says:

From the looks of the other blogs, that “Our Lady, Queen of Giant Puppets” seems to be a menace. Without its Photoshop makeover, that’s actually Good Shepherd Episcopal Church on University Blvd W in Silver Spring MD. It’s funny, and very not funny at the same time. From what i can tell up until recently that church had as their pastor a woman, and now a man who has a partner. All i can say is, thank God I’m Catholic, and let’s hope “Anglicanorum Cœtibus” provides a way in for those who are on the more Catholic end of the Anglican Communion.

  25. AnAmericanMother says:

I would never have guessed that it was an Episcopal Church.

Where’s the lichened stonework? the gables? the stained glass? the lychgate? the obligatory red door?

Seriously, though, our former parish was almost as ugly. It is known locally as “The Big Chicken” after its more than passing resemblance to a enormous animated chicken on top of a KFC in the middle of Marietta GA. It’s been there for 50 years or more and is the main navigation landmark in town “. . . just go to the Big Chicken and turn right . . . ”

    The real Big Chicken

I’d put up a pic of the church, but obviously they have enough good taste to be embarrassed as I can’t find one anywhere on the web.

the church was built at the height of the 70s nonsense.

  26. catholicmidwest says:

Gender-free? I’m not sure whether that’s scary, funny or just plain confusing.
