Pres. Obama proclaims June 2010 as “Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Pride Month”

I will with irritated gratitude tip the biretta to Jimmy Akin’s site,   o{]>:¬(    where I learned – with irritation – did I mention irritation? – about this.

President Obama has asked all Americans – I am not making this up – to observe this month.  If you’re an American, this means POTUS is asking you, by means of a proclamation – posted on the White House web site :

NOW, THEREFORE, I, BARACK OBAMA, President of the United States of America, by virtue of the authority vested in me by the Constitution and the laws of the United States, do hereby proclaim June 2010 as Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Pride Month.  I call upon all Americans to observe this month by fighting prejudice and discrimination in their own lives and everywhere it exists.

I am an American.  I do not think that anyone deserves hatred or mistreatment.  People have dignity.  Inclinations are one thing, but sin is sin.

I will not be observing "pride" month for the groups identified in this presidential proclamation.

President Obama also talks about his future goals:

Much work remains to fulfill our Nation’s promise of equal justice under law for LGBT Americans.  That is why we must give committed gay couples the same rights and responsibilities afforded to any married couple, and repeal the Defense of Marriage Act.  We must protect the rights of LGBT families by securing their adoption rights, ending employment discrimination against LGBT Americans, and ensuring Federal employees receive equal benefits.  We must create safer schools so all our children may learn in a supportive environment.  I am also committed to ending “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” so patriotic LGBT Americans can serve openly in our military, and I am working with the Congress and our military leadership to accomplish that goal.

[…]

Marriage is by God’s design between one man and one woman.  Whatever else a same-sex couple can have, it cannot be marriage.  To call what they have "marriage", and "secure" adoption rights, etc., will tear at the bonds of society.

I think I will turn the combox off, for I have little doubt that this post will simply create flames and draw out the deeply creepy as well as those who can’t self-edit.

Read documents on the site of the Holy See here, and here, and here.

As a Catholic American I prefer to observe June 2010 as a Month dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, who loves all sinners and does not love sin.
