Egyptian Army violently disperses protests by Coptic Christians

Sts. Nunilo and Alodia, pray for us.

From ahramonline:

Army violently disperses new Copts’ protest

Thousand of Copts organised a protest calling for the punishment of all those who attacked and injured pro-Coptic sit-in demonstrators on Sunday night in front of the State TV building (Maspero). The protest began in Shubra after which the protesters mobilised and marched on Maspero.

When the protesters reached State TV, the army met them first by firing into the air and then chasing them off, beating them with electric batons and sticks.

The protesters began as Copts – Muslims also joined in unity – called for the prosecution of any parties involved in the church burning in Atfeeh at Soul Village two weeks ago.

When I see things like this, I realize how cowardly us Western Christians are. I don’t think many of us would dare to organize protests and accept so much suffering in order to defend our Faith.

Lord, please give comfort to Your Coptic faithful.

I’d like to think that when it came down to it we would. There’s something about not being in the minority that makes you complacent. We Catholics are the only people left in America it’s okay to have prejudice against but at the end of the day they aren’t depriving us of basic rights… Yet.

The media didn’t stop bashing us wit Egypt’s people fighting for democracy until Mubarak was chased. Unfortunately these people aren’t ripe for the democracy. They are many centuries late on this agenda due to Islam’s obscurantism.
Once they have gotten rid of a tyrant they immediately begin to seek for another fiercer one.
They call Islam a religion of peace!
There was a time when this country’s elites were christian, mainly coptic.
They are now displaying their hate and their will too unroot the millenaries old christian religion like this happened in Algeria and Tunisia, and more recntly in Irak.
Considering how Islam was almost everywhere in the world defeated by the end of 19th century, it is sad to acknowledge how we have refueled it with the oil’s money and created our most implacable ennemy in less than 100 years!

    Dear Dirichlet,
    You write:-
“When I see things like this, I realize how cowardly us Western Christians are.”
It’s perhaps a small matter but it is we Western Christians who are cowardly not us Western Christians who are cowardly.
    WE are!
    You may not like US
A small matter of what is called nominative case and accusative case in what is left in English grammar. That’s where a foreign language, even Latin(!) would set you right.

    Thanks for the correction, JARay.
