Dems will include same-sex “marriage” plank in their platform at convention

Are you a Catholic who voted for The First Gay President?

Think again.

From Politico:

Democrats are set to include a pro-gay marriage plank in their convention platform for the first time in history, party sources confirm to POLITICO. The language was approved unanimously by a platform draft committee and now heads for approval by the full platform committee in August.

[…]

The effort to include gay marriage in the platform gained increased momentum after President Barack Obama announced in May that his views on the issue had changed to support legalization.

Who was it who said that Democrats are running the risk of turning their party into “the Party of Death”?

Hmmm. Is this a kind of an arrogant and suicidal move? The Dem leadership and elite leftists sometimes say to their own constituencies, “Shut up, and vote for us like you’re supposed to.”

But what about all the black evangelical churches and the blue collar union members? Many of both groups are opposed to this.

  2. Sissy says:

“Is this a kind of an arrogant and suicidal move?”

FranzJosf: We can only hope and pray.

I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again.
Why are is the USCCBso keen to issue pastoral statements on every issue, which dilutes the effect of the important ones on life and family issues? Then, why are the Bishops historically apt to support some organizations and condemn others? It frustrates me that the Irish and American (Irish-majority, keep in mind) were quite hostile to republican groups like the IRB and Clan na Gael, but the US bishops locked themselves into a bond with the Democratic Party…I say that the US Bishops need to condemn membership in both parties. I feel in 8 years that the GOP platform will be neutered in areas regarding life and family, and that its economic platform will resemble Ayn Rand’s philosophy.

  4. rodin says:

    Hence the revised name “Demoncrat?”

  5. Matt R, I tend to agree with that….personally, I think the USCCB needs to make less statements.

  6. jessicahoff says:

The Scottish Government are doing the same, whilst the. UK Government has lied to us and is going to bring it in after ‘consultation’. If the next step into make it compulsory, we’d all better watch out.

    Interesting move.

It seems that this will further polarize the electorate.

This is either a really bad idea or a very gutsy and carefully calculated move.

    We won’t know until November.

Maybe the idea is to motivate younger voters who seem to be a demographic favoring marriage rights and seem otherwise unenthusiastic about the coming general election; or perhaps this move is a counter blow to the RNC’s attempts to disenfranchise minorities, the poor and young voters in many states.

With 100 days to go it’s certainly dramatic political theater if nothing else.

  8. Johnno says:

The liberal values of today, are the conservative values of tomorrow.

It’s all a slippery irreversible slope. That’s if you’re depending on politics to reverse the damage. If Canada’s any example, eventually the differences between the liberal and conservative sides will blur. Eventually there will be no political parties who will stand up for life or moral sexuality. At best you can expect lip service like, “hey I believe what you believe, but (shrug) what to do?” And excuses like, “We can’t only count on you, we need to court the other voters too if you want us to win, therefore we must compromise… no abortion talk, no marriage talk.”

These are the times we’re heading for. They’re feeling gutsy now, probably for good reason. If by chance they fail, they’ll keep on stealthily re-engineering society and try again until they get it right. The two party democratic system is not you savior. It will only be a means to delay the inevitable.

Only God can help us, just don’t expect Him to do it in the manner we might want Him to. A great revival in the Church doesn’t necessarily mean happy times. The Church was ideally at its best under the worst of times.

  9. pfreddys says:

I’m glad they are doing this!!! This has been a kiss of death for any organization that has done this. Just look at the stock price of JC Penny since they came out for gay “marriage”.

  10. Sissy says:

Could you explain your interesting idea that the RNC is attempting to disenfranchise minorities, the poor, and young voters, Fr. Jim? Do you have a reliable source for this claim? As an attorney, I would certainly like to make sure this isn’t happening in my state.

  11. wmeyer says:

Sissy, I wonder if this is the canard about proof of ID for voting. There is almost nothing I can do any more without photo ID; why should voting be more susceptible to fraud than renting a vehicle or opening a bank account?

  12. acardnal says:

Attention every Catholic, wake up! We have a Christian obligation to militate against immorality in society. Don’t put your head in the sand. God will not put up with this killing of babies and legalized sodomy forever.

CCC #2246: “It is part of the Church’s mission ‘to pass moral judgments even in matters related to politics, whenever the fundamental rights of man or the salvation of souls requires it.'”

  13. Sissy says:

wmeyer, whatever it is that Fr. Jim is referring to in his comment, I’m quite sure it isn’t supported by any facts. He’s on a real roll lately with the scandalous false accusations.

  14. wmeyer says:

Sissy, I have observed that. ;) For my part, I believe that the only reason not to require photo ID is so that Chicago style voting can be used. Multiple votes, dead voters, illegal aliens voting…. The death of the Republic.

  15. Supertradmum says:

Why is everyone so surprised? POTUS was schooled in the Saul Alinksy/Marxist Chicago grass roots community action groups which have been radical since the 1960s. This is all part of the plan to completely change the culture. Kulturkampf. If anyone has read anything I have put on this blog last year and on my blog, you will recognize the old Marxist agenda to undermine the family, marriage, parental authority, obedience to natural law, gender lines, hierarchies and so on. The very first letter Gramsci, the professional, full-time revolutionary wrote in his prison letters was a note recognizing that the Catholic Church was the enemy of the communist agenda and the Bloated State. He read Pope Pius IX, X, Leo XIII and all the rest of the Popes up to his death and knew their stand against socialism and the radical anti-family, anti-God movement was the only bulwark of truth and courage. None of what POTUS does surprises me as I understand the Chicago sea of ideas in which he cut his political teeth. Chicago has been a hot bed of homosexual, in fact, lgtb activism for a long time.

Wake up. Americans. None of this is an accident and all is part of the big picture of take-over. Gramsci criticized Lenin and the Bolsheviks for thinking that violent revolution was the way to change the world. He was aware that the natural law philosophy had to be replaced by his radical idea of change in the culture through education, legal means, governmental incremental laws, sexual revolution and so on.

Welcome to the new world order…

  16. wmeyer says:

Acardnal, I agree. Neither will God forgive endlessly the Catholics who rationalize voting for issues contrary to Church teaching, even when those voters are bishops.

  17. Supertradmum says:

Oh, it is late here…one cannot cut one’s teeth on a sea.. and there is a missing and…but you are all smart…sorry

  18. Dennis Martin says:

    Sissy,

Fr. Jim is parroting Democrat Party talking points. That’s all. The Democrats can’t win honestly, they have written off and admitted that they have, the blue-collar vote. Their only hope is to demonize Romney to the point where some of those who might have voted for him stay home and then to energize the extreme fringe constituencies (that’s what the gay marriage plank is about). It’s also an attempt to both shore up their slipping support among blacks and hispanics by claiming that the Republicans hate “minorities” and want to keep them from voting by creating hurdles for them. The Depatment of Justice filed lawsuits against existing voting laws in only the Republican controlled states, claiming in some instances that their early voting laws are “too complicated” for members of minorities to understand and thus will discourage them from voting. That’s “suppressing minority vote.” It’s a falsehood, transparently so, since they only filed lawsuits in states where the majority of the votes are likely to be Republican. Plenty of “blue states” have similar laws but the totally politicized Department of Justice isn’t worried about vote suppression in “blue states.” Hmmm. Wonder why?

Finally, the DOJ lawsuits against requiring photo ID are also a transparently dishonest attempt to remove hurdles that might keep illegal aliens, felons and others who have no right to vote from voting. Florida’s attempt to purge its voter rolls of dead people and other’s who have no right to vote has also been sued by the DOJ. Obama is using the DOJ as his personal campaign lawyer staff the same way he’s using Air Force One and all the other accoutrements of office as his personal campaign vehicle.

Never has a president so politicized the Department of Justice or so abused taxpayer funding to campaign. He has spent a few hours a day in his office, not even all of that for official business. He has spent the vast majority of his time as president campaigning or recreating. No previous president comes even close.

But it’s nice that we’ve had the Democrat talking points added to this thread. It would be very sad had we not be privileged to hear them.

  19. wmeyer says:

Dennis Martin, as the Dems have written off the blue collar and white collar voters, religious voters, and heterosexuals, they really have to work hard to be sure of the black vote, and the illegals, as well as the recently deceased. Vote early, vote often — the Democrat motto.

  20. Sissy says:

Dennis Martin and wmeyer: you may have seen the reports of the study done by UT that found the group least likely to have a photo id were whites (only 89%)! Both African Americans and Hispanics had higher rates – both in the 90% range. It’s such an obvious canard that I marvel at Fr. Jim’s continued insistence on promoting disinformation. Then again, no I don’t marvel.

  21. keithp says:

I do not believe this has any importance one way or another at this point.
Where my family and I have been attending Sunday Mass, we have had a substitute cantor (music director). The substitute cantor is a womens religious. She didn’t wear a traditional habit or even “street clothes” but wore a odd combination of an alb with a litugical green “apron” with a wooden cross on top of that… But, the real oddity is that she left the parking lot ahead of us in a car with an Obama – Biden sticker. My wife reminded me that perhaps she borrowed the car and didn’t know about the sticker. My point is that for the most part liberal dems and the majority of Catholics are one and the same.

  22. frjim4321 says:

Wmeyer and Sissy if I mentioned my sources you would simply discredit them so what’s the point? Are you both going to start footnoting your comment? Republican secretaries of state have been imposing new voter laws intended to limit voting. I even saw video last night of a republican official publicly stating that a new law will insure the defeat of the President in his state. We’re just gonna have to wait and see what happens in November. I just hope for as honest and election as possible given RNC cheating and that the supreme court doesn’t get involved again.

  23. Dennis Martin says:

“Republican secretaries of state have been imposing new voter laws intended to limit voting. ”

Reverend Father, you forgot a few words. intended to limit voting by those unqualified to vote.”

I am sick and tired of the race card.

  24. Sissy says:

frjim4321: It’s rather uncharitable to assume you know in advance that I will discredit your sources. I presume you don’t have much faith in their credibility. In that case, perhaps you shouldn’t rely on them.
I must correct your comment that “Republican Secretaries of State have been imposing laws….etc”. State legislatures pass laws, not secretaries of state, Republican or otherwise. It is the duty of the chief law enforcement officer of any state to enforce the laws passed by the legislatures. Those legislators are duly elected representatives of the people of the state. It is simply false to claim that members of the executive branch in any state are imposing some lawless regime by fiat. That only is only happening on the federal level.

  25. RichR says:

Since when has “disgusting” turned into “interesting”? We should not be intrigued or entertained by our society going down the road to oblivion and damnation.

  26. oakdiocesegirl says:

Meanwhile, everyone please pray for the new Archbishop of San Francisco, Salvatore Cordileone! [my soon to be former Oakland bishop]. This move has put broad grins on our faces, as one blog says: “Vatican B##chSlaps San Francisco” I can’t wait for Mayor Ed Lee [no Chick-Fil-A for him] to have to shake his hand! Way to go, Papa Joe!

  27. Kerry says:

If one voted for the Half-Honkey/Half Donkey the first time to prove they were not a racist, then vote against him this time to proved you’re not stupid.
This move will not further polarize any voters because the ‘one’ promised to unite everyone.
And minorities, the poor and young voters in many states should be disenfranchised. Why is that wrong? New voter laws should be imposed to limit voting. Why should everyone be allowed to vote, just because “We wants it!”? Why should elections be honest? Why should the RNC be the only ones allowed to cheat? Cheating for everyone! Abortions for all!!! Murder more innocents!!! Obama 2012, wheeeeeee!
