It may be that some of you will travel, even considerable distances, to participate in the rites of the Sacred Triduum celebrated in a worthy manner.
I have on more than one occasion over the years, as a guest celebrant for the Triduum in this or that place, met people who came to town from afar specifically for the liturgical observances at my host church. It is not far fetched and it can be a kind of pilgrimage.
Thus, one of the readers here wrote, asking:
Would you begin a post wherein your follows could post Easter Triduum and Holy Week services? I am more interested for me and some friends in knowing about Extraordinary Form opportunities, however, some magnificent and glorious Novus Ordo events exist, such as Holy Thursday at St John’s Stamford, CT (Novus Ordo, ad orientem). [Not to mention probably the finest, St. Agnes in St. Paul, where even all of Tenebrae is sung.]
We have for some time taken to the roads to make visits for different flavors of the Roman Rite.
So…. open combox for your news, descriptions, schedules, events for the Sacred Triduum.
I’ll be separated from my wife and kids but with my brothers in arms and brothers in Christ on deployment in the Persian Gulf. No TLM or even ad orientum NO… I will have the opportunity to attend the chrism Mass in Abu Dhabi.

Will be visiting my in-laws in Lima, Peru during Holy Week. There is a TLM at Parroquia San Marcelo in downtown Lima, but I’m not sure how much of the Triduum they do in the Extraordinary Form. Holy Thursday we will probably go to Mass at the Cathedral and do the seven churches procession.
Those in the Greater Boston area should make it to Mary Immaculate of Lourdes in Newton Upper Falls, where there is the full TLM Triduum with all the bells and whistles. This includes also a sung Tenebrae with Victoria, Allegri, etc on Spy Wednesday.
HT and GF in our home parish, of course, but Easter Vigil at the Deaf parish in Warren MI, where Meg and Theresa will be confirmed! Then pizza piena.
At our small Byzantine Catholic parish of St. Mary’s Holy Protection, Holy Wednesday consists of the Liturgy of the Pre-Sanctified Gifts along with the Mystery of Holy Unction in commemoration of Christ’s anointing with myrrh. The services recall that on this day Judas betrayed Christ, which led to the tradition from Apostolic times of fasting on Wednesday throughout the year.
Holy Thursday consists of the celebration of Vespers & the Divine Liturgy of St. Basil with a reserved Eucharist in representation of the earthly presence of Christ realized at the Mystical Supper. In the evening, the Holy Passion service of the reading of the 12 Gospels will be conducted.
Great & Holy Friday will consist of praying the Royal Hours (6th Hour), Confession, & Vespers. The removal of the Body of Christ from the Cross is commemorated as the priest removes the Body (the Epitaphios), wraps it in white cloth & carries it into the altar. During the evening Lamentations at the Tomb, the priest carries the Epitaphios from the altar around the church in an outdoor procession before placing the burial shroud (Plaschinitza) in the Tomb. The faithful process, carrying lighted candles, to represent Christ’s descent into Hades. The evening will end as the faithful hold vigil in silence & prayer before Christ’s tomb.
Holy Saturday Divine Liturgy of St. Basil the Great will be followed by the blessing of Easter baskets/food in the parish hall. The Paschal celebration of Our Lord’s Resurrection on Sunday will begin with Resurrection Matins & an outdoor procession, followed by the Divine Liturgy of St. Basil the Great, & the blessing of Easter baskets/food.
The Toronto Traditional Mass Society-Una Voce Toronto is organising a Triduum according to the 1962 Roman Missal, the first time in Toronto since 1965. It will be at the Carmel of the Infant Jesus in Zephyr, Ontario, one hour northeast of downtown Toronto.

No Extraordinary Form Triduum for me, that would require a 3-day drive to Montreal. So it will be an Ordinary Form Triduum in my own parish. Based on my experience with the new Pastor last year, it will be reverent on his part. The Blessed Sacrament will be reposed in the chapel of our small church and that will be very reverent.
The only thing that will be jarring is the fact that the community has no understanding of ‘sacred silence’. The concept that we end the Mass of the Lord’s Supper in silence and start the celebration of the Passion in silence has somehow failed to be understood.
The Vigil will be beautiful, with all the readings. No Baptisms or Confirmations but that’s the norm for us. This will be my 17th Triduum in this parish and we’ve only had one catechumen in that time, about 8 years ago.
The tenebrae sung at the Basilica of the Sacred Heart on the campus of Notre Dame is always quite good. The rector isn’t so generous, however, as to afford triduum services according to the pian-johannine books. If you’re in the “Michiana” area, though, they’re held at St. Patrick’s: it looks like they’ll have Holy Thursday, Good Friday, and the Easter Vigil this year (some scrolling required).

Triduum will be in simple form (or for ‘smaller churches’ as Fortescue has written.)
Founded in 2006, Summorum Pontificum Wangaratta is a lay led organisation existing with the continuing blessings of the Parish of St. Patrick’s Wangaratta and the Sandhurst Diocese.
‘SPWang’ aims to provide the traditional liturgy of the Church to those who desire it and activly embrace the Motu Propio of Pope Benedict XVI, Summorum Pontificum and the instructional document, Universae Ecclesiae.
The traditional latin Mass is celebrated every Sunday and Holy Days of Obligation at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Wangaratta.
Sunday Mass times are at 5pm while Holy Days of Obligation (in the traditional calendar) are at 5:30pm unless otherwise indicated.
Please bookmark our website to keep in touch with the latest information.
I’ll be attending Tenebrae at the Dominican House of Studies in DC on the Wednesday of Holy Week (7:30 pm). Aside from that I’ll be attending the usual NO observances at the Cathedral of St Thomas More in Arlington (Chrism Mass, Mass of the Last Supper, Good Friday Service, Easter Vigil, Easter Day).
I have only found the Traditional Mass in one place in Chile, which is located 12 hours from me in Santiago. There are NO, nada, zip …. traditional novos ordo Masses available in the whole country of Chile! None!
I would love to find a good traditional novos ordo Mass in Chile, but banality is the norm. Good time, funkey, rock and roll mass is the norm in Chile.

For those interested in traveling to (or who will be in) New Orleans for the Triduum, St. Patrick’s is the home of traditional Catholics here.
Holy Thursday: 7:30pm NO mass of the Lord’s Supper followed by solemn procession to the altar of repose (with watch until midnight).
Good Friday: On Friday, there’s a wonderful New Orleans tradition called the Walk of Nine Churches. Beginning around 7:30am-8am we start at one church (usually St. Stephen’s – which does have a Tridentine Mass once a month) and walk through the city visiting 9 historic churches (including St. Patrick’s), learning a bit about each one and praying 1 or 2 Stations of the Cross at each one and ending in St. Louis Cathedral, the oldest cathedral in North America. In between churches, groups typically pray the Rosary or other devotional prayers. Thousands of Catholics participate throughout the day. It is a nice physical reminder of the Lord’s actual trek through Jerusalem to his death. Other Good Friday services at St. Patrick’s: 12pm full Stations of the Cross; 3pm Solemn Liturgy of the Lord’s Passion and Veneration of the Cross – which all parishes have, but St. Patrick’s will also have a special blessing with a relic of the True Cross.
Holy Saturday: There will be a Pontifical First Mass of Easter at 8pm.
Easter Sunday: 7:30am Sunrise Mass; 9am Vidi Aquam followed by Solemn Procession, followed by a Tridentine Solemn High Mass; 11am Procession followed by a NO Solemn Mass; 5:30pm Sung Mass (NO)

My Holy Week picks for Washington, DC:
Spy Wednesday (is it still called that?): 7:30 p.m. Tenebrae at St. Matthew’s Cathedral–beautiful music, a lovely printed program (Durer woodcut), and extremely dramatic dimming of the candles climaxing with strepitus in completely dark church–haunting.
Maundy Thursday: Very nice 7:30 p.m Mass at my parish church, St. Dominic’s–decent music (although I wish we had the Mandatum Novum Do Vobis in Latin during the foot-washing–foot-washing all male (yay!) because 12 Dominicans from the attached priory play the 12 apostles–nice outdoor procession to the beautifully decorated chapel of repose (inside the priory) with Pange Lingua in Latin–wish we had the stripping of the altar, though–or is that not done in the Novus Ordo?
Good Friday: Mass of the Presanctified, or whatever they call it these days, at the Dominican House of Studies at 3 p.m.–I’ve been going to this for 25 years because it’s the most beautiful Good Friday service in Washington, with the passion entirely sung by the friars and an adoration of the cross in which you get down on your knees and most people go barefoot–St. Dom’s has a stations of the cross at noon, with the good old St. Alphonsus Liguori text, but I went once and hated the music (instead of the Stabat Mater, “Were You There When They Crucified My Lord” amplified into 15 verses and thus wrecked to the point that I never wanted to hear it again even though I love the three-verse Johnny Cash version).
Holy Saturday: This is a tough day. I like to go to Mass on Easter Sunday morning, but at St. Dominic’s, as at most parishes, the Easter Vigil Mass is basically the same as the Easter Sunday Mass, except with extra stuff at the beginning (we do have all seven readings, a plus–most parishes skip four or five of them, on the theory that the congregations will get bored) so the Easter Sunday Mass just seems like a repeat performance–but if you go the Easter Vigil at another parish, you feel like an intruder because they’re having their own parishioners baptized–used to go to St. Anselm’s (Benedictine) Abbey for the Vigil, which was extremely austere and beautiful, but it’s not a convenient trip, so I’m trying the Dominican House (9 p.m., I think) this year.

The choir and schola also sing at all Sunday 11am Masses from October through Corpus Christi, which concludes the season with a Eucharistic Procession through the neighborhood. We don’t have the Extraordinary Rite (yet!), but this parish is a wonderful choice for orthodoxy and reverence in the liturgy.
The Great Saturday schedule should read “Hajmat” not Hajat…
If you are near enough to attend, do not forget the Chrism Mass. The Chrism Mass for the Archdiocese of Portland is on Monday, April 7, at 7 pm.
(The drive to the Cathedral from the more distant parishes in the archdiocese is as much as four and a half hours, which is why this Mass is held so early in Holy Week, rather than on Holy Thursday itself.)

In Chicago, I am considering a few options –
Holy Name Cathedral: http://www.holynamecathedral.org/uploads/Lent%20and%20Holy%20Week%202014.pdf
St. John Cantius: http://www.cantius.org/go/events/
St. Mary of Perpetual Help: http://www.stmaryofperpetualhelp.com/
I’m thinking to go to SJC for Tenebre and/or Good Friday, and the cathedral for Easter Vigil. Last time I went Francis Cardinal George was the presider, although I don’t expect he’ll be able to make it this year due to illness, but I’m sure a prayer will be said for him.

Besides primary Triduum events at our own Parish, I’m hoping to get to the Cathedral of the Holy Cross here in Boston for one or more of:
Probably won’t be able to get to Chrism Mass on Tuesday, as it’s during the work day.
Confessions and Office of Tenebrae on Wednesday evening.
Sung Night Prayer late Thursday night.
Morning Prayer Friday and Saturday.
My wife and I went to confession at Saint Mark’s Parish in St. Paul, MN. We will attend Mass of the Lord’s Supper there tonight at 7. There is also Adoration at the Altar of Repose from 8:30pm to midnight.
Friday: Stations of the Cross at 3pm and then Celebration of the Lord’s Passon from 7-8pm.
Saturday: Easter Vigil at 9pm
Sunday: Easter Mass at 9am and 11am.
Sunday night: Easter BonFire in the backyard festivities and revelry. Hopefully it will be above freezing!
Three days in Middlesbrough Cathedral, N Yorks.
Holy Thursday: 7pm Ord.Form Mass w/ the Bishop. Mixed foot-washing (ample supply of altar boys ignored). But beautiful, chants and antiphons sung by an excellent choir (and in more Latin than I’ve come to expect). Adoration until 9pm
Friday of the Passion: Celebration at 3pm. Bishop robed in an excellent chasuble with depictions of the Five Wounds (especially good for a Bishop responsible for all of North Yorkshire, c.f. Pilgrimage of Grace). Partially sung Passion, choir once again excellent.
Holy Saturday: Vigil, 9pm. I expect that the brazier will be placed in the windiest spot available (as usual!). The Diocesan MC is the Dean of the Cathedral, however, so it will be well run and beautiful . Choirs will be at it again I imagine, and the lighting changes always look powerful.
