Bugatti Sells 450th and Last Veyron
It’s the end of an era(Bloomberg) — Volkswagen AG sold the 450th and final Bugatti Veyron, marking the end of one of the most exclusive supercars ever built.
The last Veyron is an open-top Grand Sport Vitesse variant, which boasts 1,200 horsepower. The car, called La Finale, will be on display next week at the Geneva Motor Show. The 450 Veyrons were sold for an average price of about 2.3 million euros ($2.6 million) each, Molsheim, France-based Bugatti said Monday in a statement.
After buying the Bugatti brand in 1998, Volkswagen revived the carmaker, which was originally founded by designer Ettore Bugatti. The goal was to develop a vehicle both powerful enough to drive faster than 400 kilometers (249 miles) per hour as well as stylish and comfortable enough for a trip to the opera. The Veyron was first presented in 2005 and is part of Volkswagen’s effort to show it can compete on all levels of the auto industry.[…]

Father, perhaps on the used market, you may find one which the owner drove fast enough to melt the tires. It could be a relative bargain.
As to the continuing cost of fuel, you are on your own.
The gas and insurance one thing, but the nitrogen in the tires is too much.
Paying for nitrogen in tires is always too much, since regular air is 78% nitrogen anyway.

The black and red is a good color combo on the Veyron. I’ve also seen it in orange and black. It was hot.
Forget about the Nitrogen, the tires are too much. When you run this beastie at full throttle (IF you ever do), the tires are only rated for 10 minutes of use.

Ah, wmeyer, you overlook that other components of air diffuse more rapidly through the rubber, oxygen attacks it, and water has the effrontery to condense out in cold temps.
Ed, not in the least. I consider that simply using a good gauge to ensure correct pressure is a cheaper solution.
Fortunately, there is now a better car: LaFerrari. But, who named it? Really, not cool.

How closely related is it to the Batmobile?
I would settle for one of the older Jaguars (like the one Inspector Morse drove) before Jaguar was taken over by Ford and became just another boring luxury car. But then I would also need a resident mechanic to keep it in running condition.

And here I thought the mail theft at the Synod was the worst news I’d receive today.
I heard somewhere that Subaru is going to make a new clergy-friendly car that includes a special turbo-mode so you get back to church in time to hear Confessions, an automatic Rosary, special St. Christopher badging, Guardian Angel Accident Avoidance, and a cloaking device to help you hide your car from angry laity who bear sharp and scratchy keys. They’re going to call it the Subaru FR-Z.
Though not quite as bad as 4/19/05 was for me. [You know… that’s a pretty awful thing to post.]
