San Francisco MASS Mob Results

A while back I mentioned that there was going to be a “Mass Mob” at Star of the Sea parish in San Francisco to support the beleaguered priests.

It seems to have been a success. I received a few photos.  Here is a good one!

I was there. Father acknowledged the “mass mob” at the opening of his homily and then got to the meat of it.

In the course of his homily, he hinted at rough times and correlated them with the perilous situation in Germany by noting a recent survey which stated a good portion of German priests rarely or never pray. He also said he’s had the experience with many parishioners who say they feel sorry for him for not being able to marry and that that they, the parishioners, would pray that the Church some day allow a married priesthood. Father said, “That’s the wrong prayer. Don’t pray for our lives to be easy. Pray that we have strength.”

At the end of the mass Father again thanked all who came and quipped, “Now you all have to come back next week.”

Good idea. Raymond Arroyo is scheduled to speak (on what I forgot) next Sunday 7 pm. Free event.

Beautiful church! Amazing results to the Mass Mob!

The takeaway from this seems to be “Go big or go home”. The laity, who have been yearning for reverent Masses and hard-identity Catholicism, will respond to bold measures taken by Pastors. Half measures will not attract as well. Attempts to reform a parish will drive some away but attract newcomers. If you build it, we will come!
That said, it’s much better if the Pastor has the support of his Bishop.

I love seeing this, gives me hope, especially when the mob recieves a great homily. One thing that WMBriggs stated that I heard at from a few of my brother Knights of Columbus and seems to be making the rounds in modernist leaning dioceses is the conscept of more priests should be allowed to be married or get married, like that is the reason we are in such a crisis in priestly ordinations. The priest did a great job of nailing that fallicy to the wall.

I hope this is sorta like St Crispin’s day in Henry V, when the laity rally and say–Yes! We are Roman Catholics and we want good shepherds, we will die for this.

While the “Mass Mob” might temporarily spike the attendance and consequent offertory, let’s not forget this is a particular community that can’t simply be healed by the interest of the universal community.

Heck, at this point (and to my knowledge) their own shepherd hasn’t made a presence, assailed as he may be by the spotlight he’s been put to nationally on other matters.

“O Lord, put forth upon us the spirit of your love, that those whom you have fed with one heavenly Bread, you may, by your mercy, make of one mind.”

Allowing married priests will not solve the issue of a shortage of priests. If it would, why has it not worked so far for the Protestants, who also often have a shortage of their own clergy?

Maybe we should just stick with what we know works. There might just be a reason that the parishes with the most vocations to the priesthood are also the parishes that are more traditional and more orthodox in their approach to the faith.

An update on Star of the Sea School…

Archbishop Cordileone has appointed Fr. Vito Perrone as chaplain to the school.

It will be interesting to see how the angry parents accept this. Fr. Perrone came to the archdiocese at the invitation of Archbishop Cordileone to start the Contemplatives of St. Joseph. Go check them out!

The COSJ offer the Traditional Latin Mass every day but Saturday at a parish in South San Francisco where their monastery is located. This parish also has a school.

I don’t know how this is going to go over with the “we want girl altar boys” parents, but I think Fr. Perrone is a great choice in line with Archbishop Cordileone’s vision for Star of the Sea.

He what?! Gave the school a TLM priest? Go Lion Heart!

Don’t like it, parents, don’t send your kids there.
