CAPTION CALL

You might recognize one of these clerics (I saw the photo on Facebook and couldn’t resist). I think they are saying their office using phone apps.

  12. CradleRevert says:

The second from the left looks like Papal MC, Guido Marini, but the lack of violet trim on his cassock would suggest otherwise.

In days gone by, the priest would say a rosary or two while waiting. The smart phone has changed that. The new Church of Francis is here!

  20. majuscule says:

    No caption. Just comment:

It IS Msgr. Marini. Has to be. I would recognize that hairline anywhere. Okay, the cassock helps put it into a priestly perspective…

Also I recognize another Papal MC, Fr. John Cihak–to the right of Msgr. Marini. He’s an American. The one on the far right also looks like one of the Papal MCs. I’m not sure of the one on the far left.

Perhaps Msgr. Marini is lacking the trim because he is traveling incognito…

  21. Theodore says:

Not sure of their names but it was nice to see that one of the priests had Filson luggage. It will probably outlast him.

  22. It is Msgr. Marini and Fr. John Cihak. According to the original poster, they were in New York Penn Station. They’re prepping for Pope Francis’s arrival in a few weeks.

All I can say is this is further proof that planning these events must be really stressful.

“Oh boy, what did he say now?”

  28. pelerin says:

The link given by The Egyptian is interesting and reminded me of how the great British actor Sir Alec Guinness first started to think about Catholicism. He was playing Father Brown and still dressed in his soutane was walking back to his lodgings in a small French village when a small boy took his hand and accompanied him. He reflected that a Church which could inspire such confidence in a young child merely because he was wearing a cassock must have something going for it.

Incidentally when I was in Lourdes last month I noticed the highest number of soutanes I had ever seen there in the cafes and streets and not just in the Sanctuaries. It was good to see these young men so visible.
