  1. How long is the general strike to last?

  2. Dunno yet. Haven’t gotten into the news.

Fr Z.: A good friend of mine flew into Rome the other day and he says it is a mess with no end in sight. Hopefully I get better news from him soon.

  4. Tim Ferguson says:

Hmmmm, in the midst of a general strike, the Pope releases an encyclical on hope….surely this is a man attuned to his times, and with plenty of experience with striking Italians.

That describes Rome, with or without uno sciopero.

Yo, reverend and Dear Fr Zee,

It is hoped that during your time in the eternal city you will attend Sunday Mass or Vespers in St Peter’s and agree that there has been a VAST improvement in the Cappella Giulia; repertoire, style of singing, and a new “professional” ambience, entirely fitting for God’s great temple on earth.

  7. TNCath says:

I second the above comments about the Cappella Giulia. I was there last week and they are much improved, albeit fewer in numbers. At both Vespers ceremonies and the Sunday Mass I attended, I couldn’t help but notice the retired director of the Cappella Giulia, Msgr. Colino take his place in the choir stall with other members of the Vatican Chapter. I wondered what he must have been thinking.

  8. Michael Fudge says:

    Father Z,

I was wondering if you happened to be around at the Basilica of Saint Mary Major when Episcopal Bishop Jeffrey Steenson was received into the Church this past weekend by Cardinal Bernard Law?
