Help a WDTPRS reader with a Mass on 15 December

I hope you readers can help this fellow who wrote by e-mail:

We are planning to celebrate a Novus Ordo "Low" Mass in Latin (ad orientem!) on December 15, 2007. Only the readings and the Gospel will be in the vernacular.

The trouble is that, here in Manila, Latin Missals (Novus Ordo, not Tridentine) are excedingly rare, and even great churches don’t have it! I’ve tried looking through the Internet for the Latin propers on December 15 and I’ve had no success at all. I already have the entire Ordo Missae and Prex Eucharistica I in Latin, so no problems there. What I need are the following:

1) Entrance Antiphon
2) Collect
3) Responsorial Psalm (this is only Low Mass so I’m not looking for the proper verses from the Graduale)
4) Alleluia verse
5) Communion Antiphon

I’d also like to know if we have the option of having a Votive Mass of the BVM on December 15 (I assume that there won’t be any Gloria still)

Pardon me for my ignorance, but I don’t have anyone else to turn to right now. I’d appreciate any help that could come my way, either from you or from people you could refer to me. Thanks!

You can use the Graduale for the antiphon at the introit etc. If someone has the Solesmes Gregorian Missal, you are sorted.

I think the gradual is the preferred option even in read masses, but don’t quote me …

  6. Jeff says:

Here is everything from the Missal including the Preface, which you did not mention whether you had or not. I have not included the Psalm since is is already presented.

    Hebdomada II Adventus – Sabbato

Ant. ad introitum Cf. Ps 74, 4.2
Veni, et ostende nobis faciem tuam, Domine,
qui sedes super Cherubim, et salvi erimus.

    Collecta
Oriatur, quaesumus, omnipotens Deus, in cordibus nostris
    splendor gloriae tuae,
    ut, omni noctis obscuritate sublata,
filios nos esse lucis Unigeniti tui manifestet adventus.
    Qui tecum vivit et regnat
    in unitate Spiritus Sancti,
    Deus, per omnia saecula saeculorum.

    Super oblata
    Devotionis nostrae tibi, Domine, quaesumus,
    hostia iugiter immoletur,
quae et sacri peragat instituta mysterii,
et salutare tuum nobis potenter operetur.
    Per Christum Dominum nostrum.

    Prefation I de Adventu
Vere dignum et iustum est, aequum et salutare,
nos tibi semper et ubique gratias agere:
Domine, sancte Pater, omnipotens aeterne Deus:
    per Christum Dominum nostrum.
Qui, primo adventu in humilitate carnis assumptae,
    dispositionis antiquae munus implevit,
    nobisque salutis perpetuae tramitem reseravit:
ut, cum secundo venerit in suae gloria maiestatis,
    manifesto demum munere capiamus,
quod vigilantes nunc audemus expectare promissum.
Et ideo cum Angelis et Archangelis,
    cum Thronis et Dominationibus,
    cumque omni militia caelestis exercitus,
    hymnum gloriae tuae canimus,
    sine fine dicentes:

Ant. ad communionem Cf. Ap 22, 12
Ecce venio cito et merces mea mecum est, dicit Dominus,
    dare unicuique secundum opera sua.

    Post communionem
    Tuam, Domine, clementiam imploramus,
ut haec divina subsidia, a vitiis expiatos,
    ad festa ventura nos praeparent.
    Per Christum Dominum nostrum.

  7. Daniel Anselmo says:

    Geoffrey:

Where did you took the psalm and the alleluia from?

  8. Geoffrey says:

    Daniel:

From the 3-volume Latin Lectionary (“Lectionarium”).

  9. Dear Geoffrey, Jeff and Berolinensis,

Thank you very much for all of these!

    Our prayers and best wishes;

  10. FR MARK says:

POST YOUR FULL NAME AND POSTAL ADDRESS AND I WILL SEND YOU A COPY OF THE OLDER EDITION OF THE NOVUS ORDO ALTAR MISSAL IN LATIN. IT WILL NOT BE IN PERFECT CONDITION BUT IT WILL BE BETTER THAN NOTHING. IT WILL BO TOO LATE FOR 15TH DECEMBER BUT I HOPE THERE WILL BE OTHER OCCASIONS!

  11. ALL:  Do NOT post your street addresses on this blog.  I recommend that you do not put them on any publicly readable blog.

Find a way to contact each other by e-mail, if necessary.

  12. Br. Pius, OP says:

The Congregation for Clergy has a website called Biblia Clerus. Essentially it is a Scripture resource, but links the passages of Scripture to the works of the Fathers, the Catechism, Summa, etc. Most relevantly here, the 2002 Latin Missale has been made a part of the site. More importantly, the whole thing is downloadable to your own computer with a very easy interface. In other words, you can have access to the text of the entire Latin Missale on your computer.

It is a great resource: http://www.clerus.org/bibliaclerus/index_eng.html

  13. Fr Justin says:

Thanks, Br Pius; I had to do quite a bit of searching, but eventually found the online Missal. As you say, it’s a copy of the 2002 Missal: impressively accurate, even to the misprint in EP4 which caught me out once at the London Oratory. Serves me right for using EP4 in Latin, I suppose. When you’re there at the altar with a substantial congregation behind you, you don’t have time to question the text in your mind; it’s only a moment later you think ‘WHAT did I just say?’
Has anyone else spotted it? It’s a bit of a howler, and I’m a bit surprised they didn’t correct it on line. Unless nobody else has actually spotted it. Maybe nobody else has ever used EP4 in Latin………

  14. Francis A. says:

The person who started this thread said that there was a plan to celebrate a Novus Ordo Low Mass. There is no such animal. With the “reform of the liturgy” (promulgation of what is now called the Ordinary Form of the Roman Rite of the Mass), the terms “low Mass” and “high Mass” were discarded. They are used (by educated, obedient Catolics) only with regard to the Extraordinary Form of the Roman Rite of the Mass.

  15. Dear Francis;

Yes, there is no such animal. That’s why I wrote “low” mass, not just low
mass. However, before you judge me as disobedient and ignorant, perhaps you
might be interested to know that Fr. Zuhlsdorf was not the only person to
whom I sent that letter. I also sent it to certain Filipino colleagues and
sacristans, knowing full well that in my country “low mass” and “high mass”
continue to be in informal use.

Don’t be so quick to judge.
