This is beautiful! Almost brings a tear to the eye, especially knowing that in my Diocese at our Chrism Mass we always get a demonstration of a bunch of feminists protesting the male-only Priesthood… As I walk past our idiotic protest here I will remember this sign of hope.
Is this from last year or is someone really anticipating the celebration of the Chrism Mass by having it four days early?
I wonder if they are protesting the quality of the vestments?

Do you think it’s appropriate to give a priest some sort of card on Father’s Day, signed by the family? I’ve been feeling a bit bad about how we (especially me) take priests for granted, and I was thinking of doing something like this for our pastor this year.
I really love your blog. I am learning so much from it.
As the instigator of this demo, I can happily report that (1) the photos shown really were from last year (2) the feminists who used to be there got so dispirited because we were younger and prettier that they have given up their attempts at a demo in Southwark (or died) and (3) there have been offshoots in other dioceses: Westminster last year and A&B and Westminster this year…

They are not protesting. Look at the signs.
Actually, once the priests have disrobed, I might be tempted to go and accidentally have a little auto da fe with the vestments and the hymn books…
Fr Finigan might even give me absolution afterwards…
I suggested to a couple of priest friends that we should contract Vanpoulles to produce diocesan maniples in the same style. But then I heard that Revv Alex Redmond and Bede Rowe had beaten us to the pass in Clifton diocese. LOL.
Those vestments are not fit to throw over a horse.

In fairness, you can’t really see them well in the pic. Are they that bad in real life? They just look plain…
I realise that Lent is a time for wearing sackcloth and ashes, but never imagined, in my wildest nightmares, that the sackcloth would then be used to make vestments…
Mac: Save old potato sacks.
I remember once when visiting the sacristy of a cathedral in the USA, I saw some “albs” of burlap or sackcloth intended for use by obviously young altar servers. Upon examination, I discovered on the inside the printing of the potato company they came from.
More reason to hate all but old-fashioned albs!
