Missals are so expensive! We were very lucky in that somebody gave us one (it’s an earlier edition than 1962). Then, I went and ordered a prayer book that contains the missal for Sundays and holy days, which is all we’ll ever likely need.
I just found this on Amazon – it looks like an affordable paperback daily missal:
http://www.amazon.com/Latin-English-Sunday-Missal-Ordinary-Typical/dp/1929291922/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1207058324&sr=8-3
I’ve seen moderately priced old missals on EBay frequently.
http://christtheking.stores.yahoo.net/latbookmis.html $4.95. I will happily send you ten or make a donation as it may be more convenient and quicker if you ordered them directly. I will check out the link to LMS that you provided. Unfortunately, they do not contain the Sunday readings, but it does have excellent illustrations and notes regarding the priest’s actions, which makes it very easy to follow the Mass.
Thank you very much for featuring this, Father. If I may you may also want to feature this, which I will email about in a bit.
God bless you, and thanks for the Podcast!
Mark
Christopher, those red missal/pamphlets are available over here for about £3.50. I think the LMS means that they are looking for actual daily missals with the ordinaries, etc.
I posted the Amazon link above because it looks like someone has published an affordable paperback version of it. I mean, I know that it makes sense to buy a high-quality leatherbound missal on good paper because it will last a lifetime, but £39 is more than a lot of people can afford. The cheapest one I’ve seen listed over here is St. Joseph’s Daily Missal, which is £23. It’s no-frills and on cheap paper, but if you’re going to be cheap, why not go paperback and make it as affordable as possible? Of course, since the demand for these missals is less than for a Grisham novel, I guess they’ll never be truly cheap to sell.
Kradcliffe, the link you posted is to another missalette, recently published by Roman Catholic Books, containing only the ordinary of the Mass (plus the full Nuptial and Requiem Masses) similar to the Ecclesia Dei missalettes. I have not heard of any publishing house producing a paperback daily or Sunday missal containing the propers.
techno, thanks for telling me exactly what it was! I couldn’t tell from the description.
