Musing on the long-desired document

Our friends at Rorate have reminded us that it has been a very long time since it was announced that there would be a clarifying document on the provisions of Summorum Pontificum.

Here is what I know.

I was speaking to someone in the position to know what the status of the document.  He told me nothing I didn’t know before, and haven’t reported here before.

The PCED’s work on the document was completed months ago.  It is now with the Holy Father…. who appears not to be in a hurry.

He can do anything he wants to the document.

The good thing about this is that the document becomes his and therefore will have greater authority.

The only thing I was able to get clear was that the document was not also worked on by the Congregation for Divine Worship, which really doesn’t have any competence in the matter of the older forms.  I had read somewhere, don’t remember where, that the CDW was involved.  While that would make a measure of sense sometime down the line, it wouldn’t be good right now.

I say "down the line", because it is entirely possible that someday the Commission would perhaps be absorbed into the Congregation.  That would make sense…. someday.

But not now.   Now, it would be a bad idea indeed.

So… we wait and we work.

Brick by brick, folks.

Do not get frustrated… just keep working.

Also, you might pray to the Holy Father’s guardian angel(s) to nudge him into action in this matter of the clarifications.

    Fr. Z. & Friends,

Please pray that all Bishops will comply with the Holy Father’s wishes.

And that all of the Bishops will be of one mind with the Holy Father as regards the matter.

The motu proprio itself was close to publication for 2 years. The clarifying document probably also will be. Continue to live your life.

Okay. If the Church can take it’s sweet time dealing with people’s souls, then no one better have a conniption fit about the Government dragging its feet about the economy. Obviously both the Church and the Government see fit just to talk about it rather than take action.

Double-whammy. The new English translations for the Novus Ordo. “We don’t intend for them to be used right away.” In other words, WHENEVER. Again, all talk and no action.
