Too much work

Someone sent me a copy of the article in America by Bp. Galeone, who helped spearhead the USCCB’s rejection of a section of the new translation of the Missale Romanum.

However, the article is in the hated PDF format, nice to print… pretty much impossible to work with otherwise.

There it is.  Too much work right now.

Is there a way to upload a PDF file onto the blog, so that someone could click on it and open it up if they have Adobe Reader?

As long as the text of a pdf file can be copy/pasted, I’ve never had much trouble pasting the text into a Word file or even an email and then manually typesetting it for readability. I’ve got some free time right now, and I’d be happy to do this for you if you want to email it to me (unless the pdf’s setting does not allow copy/pasting, of course).

    Father,

I have the full version of Adobe at work and can run OCR on the text so it can be copied and pasted. Unfortunately, I can only use it during 8-5 EST, but perhaps one your other readers has the program at home and can do the transformation.

I too hated the dreaded PDF files until I found Foxit!
Now everything is, at last manageable, with this great little program.
You can download the reader here:

    Fr Z,

I have a copy of Adobe Acrobat (8.0) at home. I would be more than willing to convert/transcribe documents in the evening. Just let me know if I can be of assistance.

  7. Father Z:

I know you are busy, so I understand you may not have time to deal with this; but I’d love to hear your take on one section of the Roman Canon as it appears in the new translation:

“For them and all who are dear to them we offer you this sacrifice of praise or they offer it for themselves and all who are dear to them, for the redemption of their souls, in hope of health and well-being, and fulfilling their vows to you, the eternal God, living and true.”

I’d be delighted to hear any comments you have, if you have time.

Fr. Martin Fox, I’m not Fr. Z (I’d be a poor substitute at best), but the more I read it aloud (with good inflection and pauses at the right places) the less awkward it sounds. I’m not saying it’s the best translation, just that it’s not as bad as I first thought it was.

For them — and all who are dear to them — WE offer you this sacrifice of praise —- or THEY offer it for themselves and all who are dear to them —- for the redemption of their souls — in hope of health and well-being — and fulfilling their vows to you, the eternal God, living and true.

    Father Z,
Have you seen scribd? http://www.scribd.com it allows you to upload a pdf file then embed it into your site in a flash based viewer. We use this for putting our parish bulletins online.

The article is available on the magazine’s homepage, and it’s not in pdf:

A.T.S., if one subscribes one can see it, otherwise…

  12. Tina in Ashburn says:

Generally in PDF, unless the format is locked, you can use the Text tool in the menu bar at the top. This allows you to select all [ctrl + A] or some, copy [ctrl + C], and paste [ctrl + V] the text into another format.

Just in case that’s an option you hadn’t considered…

Modifying or reposting the article is probably prohibited under the Copyright laws. What a shame.
