The Most Reverend Robert J. McManus, Bishop of the Worcester Diocese, has given his approval for this new regularly scheduled Traditional Latin Mass.
The following is the press release:In response to Pope Benedict XVI’s Summorum Pontificum, Reverend Father Thien Nguyen, pastor at Immaculate Conception Church in Fitchburg, Massachusetts, has generously invited Reverend Father David Phillipson to offer the Extraordinary Form Mass (the Traditional Latin Mass) every Sunday at 8am, beginning on June 28th and also on Holy Days according to the Traditional Calendar. Father will hear confessions at 7:30am before Mass, and the Rosary will be prayed aloud at that time. Father will also hold spiritual conferences and traditional devotions, and administer the Sacraments according to the Extraordinary Form of the Roman Rite. For more information, visit the parish website at www.immaculateconceptionfitchburg.com. Immaculate Conception Church is located at 59 Walnut Street in Fitchburg, Massachusetts. The parish will also continue to keep its regular schedule of Masses in the Ordinary Form (Novus Ordo Masses).

“Worcester”… pronounced like Wuster. This is an excellent development in a diocese that is more generally… well…let’s say slightly progressive. When the TLM begins taking hold in MA, things are definitely moving along! I grew up in one of those small towns and would never imagine such a thing happening…good news!

Fr. Nguyen is a good friend of mine when we were at the Seminary and had been to I.C. parish in Fitchburg a couple of times. I’m glad that he welcomed the TLM in his parish. The parish has few parishioners and hopefully the TLM faithful will re-energize the parish.
If you live in Worcester, you pronounce it Wooo-ster.
Many people from other parts of the country put the \”h\” in the spelling.
Here\’s another difficult-to-pronounce MA town ,named after it\’s counterpart in merry old England,to pronounce : Leicester (pronounced \”Les-ter\”)

Fortunately… I grew up in the easy-to-pronounce town of “Holliston”…no silent letters, although the recent fad of “Hollister” T-Shirts reminds me of being at a school pep-rally sometimes.
When I phonetically spelled it “Wuster” I meant the the Latin pronunciation of the “U”… as in “tuo”. If you’re from Southie… it would be “Woostah”.
Here in Ohio, we just spelled it “Wooster” and got it over with. :)

My husband is from there. The first syllable rhymes with “book”. Woo-stah. But not woo as in “too”.

I love the time- 8am, a normal time for a traditional Mass. This permits those who wish to fast from midnight a sensible amount of time to fast. I just find this very respectful toward Catholics attached to the EF. Thankyou Bishop.
I pronounce it “Worcester”, the same way as in “Worcestershire sauce”.

robert goddard was born in worcester but it may have been in auburn where he crashed his first rocket into his aunt’s cabbage patch though i thought that occurred in worcester too.

If this is the same Fr Phillipson that was briefly at Queen of the Holy Rosary in Ohio, I envy the parishioners at this parish. He was my favorite priest of all time. I loved (and got so much) out of his sermons. He really challenged you. I miss him very, very much.
