Let’s Go Bucs!!! Stop the streak this year.
I can’t wait to see the Twins new stadium Father. I’ve heard from some (that have been to preseason events) that it’s going to be a great place to watch baseball.
Of course, all good Catholics must root for the Cardinals!
Aren’t we glad that Opening Day followed Holy Week this year? No hot dog requests on Good Friday.
It was disappointing that the baseball season openned on Easter Sunday.
Would that the Catholics on the teams had refused to play (as Sandy Koufax refused to play on Yom Kippur in the 1965 World Series)!
Better Easter Sunday than Good Friday as happened a few years ago.
As far as the “noble Red Sox” are concerned, they are even more insufferable than the Yankees, if that is possible. Of course, in a sense all AL teams are the enemy, subscribing as they do to the designated hitter heresy. Still, I would rather see any of these teams win than the true representatives of the dark side, the NY Mets.
My home town, Tucson, has lost it’s Spring Training teams. This was the last spring. We lost our AAA club to Reno last year. No more big league in our town.
BUT – we now have a semi pro team, The Tucson Toros, which offers exciting baseball at a price that families can afford. No prima donnas and show boats! Just a fun time at a good price.
Don’t get use to it Father. It won’t last!
Thinks the Yankees should forfeit all their games

Don’t bet on that. Boston will be tough for the hated Yankees or anyone else to beat. But that’s the American League. For me, GO PADRES
I beg to differ, tennis is the sport that God loves best. :)
Thank the Lord that there are 161 more games to play. The noble and glorious Yankees will win at least another 100 games. So, not to worry.
I betcha God loves a good NFL Football game, too! Betcha, betcha!
Sorry to be a schtick in the mud but my openning day was spoiled by a first pitch http://gatewaypundit.firstthings.com/2010/04/holy-sissy-pitch-obama-booed-loudly-throws-girly-ball-at-nationals-game-video/
Go Mariners! King Felix for Cy Young!
Reds lost to the Cards :( Bummer as I am a very loyal Cincinnati fan. Hey I was raised seeing the greatest– Bench, Concepcion, Rose, Geronimo, Perez, Foster…
But the Reds have the moral victory, because they started play on Easter Monday.
And since everybody knows that the Reds are the eldest professional team, and that Opening Day is when the Reds play, today was Opening Day. Sunday was just Heathen Anticipation of Opening Day.
:)
The opening home game for the Colorado Springs Sky Sox (AAA Top Affiliate for the Colorado Rockies) is April 16. Can’t wait!
Fr. Z’s passion for baseball is known far and wide. Given that the Twins are usually a competitive team, there is good reason for this.
In Pittsburgh, summer consists of Skyblasts, other Fireworks Nights, bobblehead giveaways and other assorted attractions to keep the “yunzers” occupied between the end of the Penguins’ season and the start of the Steelers’ training camp in Latrobe.
Suburbanbanshee,
You are right indeed! Opening Day is the day when the Reds play :) It is a holiday for us in Cincinnati– Findlay Market Parade, a sea of Red shirts and ball caps. Our school had the game on TV for us that did not skip school to see the game.
I am also grateful that the Reds had the good sense to not have our narcissist-in-chief attend the festivities and “throw” the first pitch. But then again our ball park is called “Great American Ball Park” :P
Tennis is the sport that God loves best ?
You may as well say that croquet is the sport that God loves best or badminton. What was that other one from the ’80’s? Oh yeah, it was ZIMM-ZAMM.
But then again, Einstein said God doesn’t play dice. And he was wrong. So I guess I can be wrong too. ;)
