Not so cool in Manhattan

On the flight coming in to NYC last night I was able to do some work online, with the airplane’s wifi.

In this moment I was tracking the flight on a non-liturgical iPad.

I was given when they came out and I am as yet undecided about what I want to use it for.  This iPad does not have 3G, so it is less helpful on the road.  But I have put a few books on it.  Also, I have figured out how to transfer files to it across my network.  I can also use it when connected to wifi to watch my SlingBox (which is one of the greatest inventions ever).

As we were landing the fireworks for the 4th of July were starting up around New York.  Alas, none of my photos turned out from the plane.

By the time I get from the airport to the west side where I generally stay, the show was still going.

Here is a bad shot down the street in front of the rectory.

I went with a friend who picked me up to a favorite place on 9th and 24th for a quick bite of Chinese dumplings.

Better than the ramen I ate at home before my flight.

And a special treat was seeing one of these on the way home!

Back in NYC, where it is hot hot hot today.  Right now…. 99F (37C).  It is not too humid.

I am in today, stuck at a desk working on an article, but later tonight I will sally forth.

Weather like that isn’t too unusual where I live, but we always have high humidity too. We are supposed to have a week’s worth of mid to upper 90s. Sigh. I hope it cools down by the time you are ready to sally forth, Father. Pray we get some much needed rain.

RAMEN: It’s like sucking on concentrate from the dried up Dead Sea, with a few clorox bleached millennia old seaweed blocks tossed in for effect. Good for humility, but not for the health. Trust me on that one.

Mmmm, dumplings! My favorite. I’m guessing the car is a …Pinto? Have a wonderful time in NY, Father, keep cool.

  4. Girgadis says:

Well Father, you certainly have seen both extremes of the kind of weather we get in the Northeast. You were in the Philly/NJ area after the big snowstorm and here you are back East while we’re in the throes of a summer meltdown. As every other person in Philadelphia will tell you, it’s not the heat, it’s the humidity! Stay cool and be well.

  5. Yada: Great for the budget!

Wanda, my first guess would be Pinto, as well. I tried zooming in to read the logo, but didn’t have the resolution.

    Great for the budget!

A clarion call for recipies costing no more than ramen (about $0.16 a packet), and which is just as easy to make.

    I’m at a loss there.

Maybe red lentil beans alone or with anything else thrown in?

  8. chironomo says:

Yep, it’s a Pinto alright… looking at the front bumper, it is most likely a ’73…..in very good condition at that! The front bumper gaurds were only there in 73 and 74.

As for cheaper than Ramen… lentils and broth or possibly Couche-Couche (corn meal mush). Ramen is certaily easier to prepare though…

Another dandy, Vincenzo! I can just see it now, Fr. Z. hot-rodding around in his souped-up Pinto! A blast from the past (the car, that is.) Thanks for the smiles.

  10. irishgirl says:

That car just ‘fits’ you, Father Z! Love it!

Another masterpiece from Vincenzo! Woo Hoo!

  11. AnAmericanMother says:

    Vincenzo,

Put a big scoop on the hood (and a big bump under that) and it’ll look like it has a souped-up 429 Cobra Jet in it . . . . it WILL fit (a friend of mine did it, tore the tranny up but while it was working it was the original street sleeper.)

    Wonder Pony

It would have to be re-christened something appropriate.

  12. Desertfalcon says:

You were lucky, Father. One wrong nudge on the back bumper of that Pinto and “Whooosh!”, flaming priest.
