You’re making me homesick. Being a transplanted Pennsylvanian, I sorely miss the return of “life” in the trees and around the yard. California is alive all year long, making it more humdrum. Though I love my Meyer lemon and naval orange trees !
We have so many birds in our yard, along with wild turkeys, deer, and every other woodsy creature that stares at me when I shine my flashlight their way at night when I take my dogs out. I would love some birdfeeders, but we also have a neighborhood bear who troops through now and then and would not be averse to smacking my birdfeeders to smithereens!
The red shouldered hawks in my neighborhood are especially vociferious right now. Saw 4 of them in one tree last week. and two days ago spotted two of them fighting over a small mouse
“Remember… it is a gliding tree rat.”
I understand they’re a pest, but you could choose an insult that doesn’t make them sound more amazing… You could say something about how they’re good eatin’, which at least makes them sound awesome to get rid of.
(P.S. This is off-topic, but that strip about the analogy police does mean something to me, as I’m an intern myself currently…)
Nice pictures, Father Z-even of the ‘gliding tree rat’!
It’s wonderful to hear the birds singing in the morning now. The only ones whose songs I recognize are the cardinals (I always say to myself, ‘Hi, Your Eminences!’) and the robins (always singing for rain for some reason!).
On Friday I saw a heap of feathers on the road-I think a wild turkey met its end! Looked big enough to be a turkey! Pretty messy…
I always enjoy your bird pictures, Father Z. You have quite the variety there. The birds are getting more numerous and active here, too. I love your picture of Mr. Flying Squirrel, I’m sure he just came to look for the hamster. That flying squirrel is a cutie, he looks in the 2nd photo, as if he got caught in the act, well I guess he did. Thanks for the Spring up-date from the Feeder Feed.
