Perhaps we should start calling him “Henry IX”?

Perhaps we should start calling him “Henry IX“, along with “The First Gay President”?

From FoxNews:

Obama calls Conscience Clause for Military Chaplains “Ill-Advised”

By Todd Starnes

Religious liberty advocates are concerned after President Obama said a conscience clause that would allow military chaplains to opt-out of performing gay marriages is “unnecessary and ill-advised.”

“Every member of our armed forces should be able to serve without surrendering their beliefs,” said Ron Crews, executive director of the Chaplain Alliance for Religious Liberty.

The clause is in the National Defense Authorization Act signed by President Obama on Thursday – but he issued a statement noting his objections to Section 533 – the clause protecting chaplains.

The section reads, “No member of the Armed Forces may — require a chaplain to perform any rite, ritual, or ceremony that is contrary to the conscience, moral principles, or religious beliefs of the chaplain; or discriminate or take any adverse personnel action against a chaplain.

The provision was introduced by former Rep. Todd Akin, in response to President Obama’s appeal of the military’s “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” policy.

“Section 533 is an unnecessary and ill-advised provision, as the military already appropriately protects the freedom of conscience of chaplains and services members,” Obama wrote. “My administration remains fully committed to continuing the successful implementation of the repeal of Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell, and to protecting the rights of gay and lesbian service members; Section 533 will not alter that.”

Just more expressed desire by Obama to oppress freedom of religion. Thank you Cong. Todd Akin for your foresight.

Yup, just like when the administration tried to prevent the military chaplains from preaching about the HHS mandate a few months back. Yes, Barack Caesar Obama, I trust you to protect my freedom….

He is a puppet animated by leftist activists – we should name him after a puppet.

If the military already protects such, why is it a problem to write it into law …

    Christian/Catholic militia?for reals?

  6. Joe in Canada says:

I would presume that a Catholic chaplain can only do Catholic sacraments. Does this refer to a sort of “non-denominational” chaplain?

  7. Tim Ferguson says:

that would be a horrid insult to the real Henry IX

  8. disco says:

The fact that Barry O thinks it’s ill-advised proves the clause’s necessity.

Drat. Tim Ferguson beat me to it. I nominate him for Fr. Z’s Gold Star of the Day.

  10. I guess this is one time to be thankful the president doesn’t have the line-item veto.

Obama’s comment fits right in with #26.

  12. If it’s not in writing, it isn’t real, of course the clauses need to be there.

I hope Americans stop seeing him as religious. His religion is Obamadolatry.

Note my post over a month ago on the first lesbian marriage in the West Point Chapel. The rot has set in.

Being a military chaplain is already a tough row to hoe, given all the restrictions they have on “proselytizing”, etc. If that legislation were really to go ahead without conscience protection, it would be the end of the Catholic military chaplaincy. Really. (I.e., if you won’t preside over gay weddings, then you can’t be a chaplain.) And our military personnel will be bereft of the sacraments when they are most in need…

    New Sister,

    How about “Achmed”?

Only true Christians are being forced to give up their beliefs. Those with immoral ‘beliefs’ are driving the bus these days.

The citizens of the United States, many of whom are catholic, voted in a man to lead them who carries the “Standard of Satan” proudly.
St. Michael the archangel defend us in battle. Be our protection against the malice and snares of the devil and do thou prince of the heavenly hosts drive into hell Satan and the other evil spirits who prowl about the world seeking the ruin of souls. Amen.

I agree New Sister……but he is really a pupet animated by the powers that be. There are those more powerful that “pull his strings” other than just the far left in his party. Actually, they are the only ones to really “pull his strings”.

  19. Jim R says:

No…Not Henry IX. Among the Stuart pretenders, Henry Benedict Cardinal Stuart was known as Henry IX. He was the last direct descendant of James II. Cardinal Stuart was consecrator or co-consecrator of 2 bishops who each later became Pope. So…Stay away from making fun of the President as Henry IX! :-)

BTW the current Stuart pretender is Franz, Duke of Bavaria through a line from Charles I’s youngest daughter. (And, thus with a better genealogical claim than the current Monarch who claims through the eldest daughter of James I.) Duke Franz is elderly and unmarried. After him the claim will devolve on his brother, Max, and through him into the House of Liechenstein.

    make that “Liechtenstein”
