My stomach turned as a I saw on the site of WaPo some photos of the preparation for the inauguration of the President – you know the one – tomorrow.
No no no. That’s just wrong.
I’d like to know who paid for these and how they are being distributed like this by the Presidential Inaugural Committee.
UPDATE:
I was reminded in a comment, below, about the great scene in Galaxy Quest.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=i8lrfRwNlfs
“Sisters for Obama” seem to be emulating the “Patriotic Catholics” of China.
Well maybe the nuns on the bus crowd will be offended by the habit and protest.
I’ll bet she’s not a sister just a “plant” by “O” to try to drive a wedge among Catholics.
“Divide and Conquer”
A political ploy we mustn’t give too much credence too.
Funny that they didn’t pick another denomination to promote “O”
Anti-Catholicism strikes again.
I’m waiting for the USCCB’s outcry.
Shall I hold my breath?
I bet the “Sisters for Life” might have something to say about that!

sic: “Sisters of Life”
Young? Habited? For Obama? Really?
SO wrong. None of the habit-wearing nuns I know would vote for Obama in a million years.
They need to be held accountable to reality. Show a picture of an old woman with a butch hair cut in a dowdy pantsuit with the same phrase. They do not wear the habit in real life, they shouldn’t try to capitalize on its symbolic power. The average person (especially non-Catholics) will think its some sort of lesbian support thing, and so be it.
How truly bizarre. Is there a “priests for Obama” equivalent (I hope not)? Or are they specifically pandering to the nuns on the bus, none of whom would be caught dead wearing a habit like that? It doesn’t seem like there would be a huge market for these in any case.
Why would a nun need to wear a pin with a picture of a nun on it? That would be like masons for Obama showing a mason instead of, I don’t know, tools. Doctors for Obama, a picture of a doctor instead of a stethoscope or whatever. No, I’m afraid the photo (which seems likely to be of a model and not of an actual nun) is not appealing to religiosity at all, but to sensuality. Gross.
The picture is wrong! It should have an “old” lady, with blue hair and a pants suit. I don’t think too many habited Religious Women support the Emperor!
LisaP: Excellent question!
iPadre: Truly, the picture is false. On the other hand, it seems far too many c_atholics have supported Obama.
As to what happens tomorrow, nothing to see there. I certainly have better things to do.
This is photo #788673 from istockphoto.com. You can see other images of her if you search “Catholic sister” on the site. These images were used by campaign without the knowledge of the subjects in the photographs. I strongly suspect the sister or nun is not even in the US. For more information, see the following link: http://www.theatlantic.com/politics/archive/2012/10/meet-the-real-life-hipster-for-obama-an-unemployed-spaniard/263519/.
Who would buy these? Lady Gaga? Anarchists? Cross-dressers? The nuns who do support potus would not be caught dead in a habit.
PS your quotation, “That’s just ……wrong” reminds me of a scene from Galaxy Quest.
[LOL! Yup. You got it! Although in the movie it was “Oh… that’s not right… no…” I think I’ll rename the post in honor of the “not right” relationship of the liberal nuns and the First Gay President.]
Sister looks like she has been invented in Photoshop. And which order is she supposed to belong to? If she is a real nun, one wonders what her abbess will say, when she discovers that Sister has been sneaking out of the convent…
Dear Supertradmum,
Lady Gaga, haha, you crack me up! I spilled my last cup of tea on my feet, haha!
No, it’s the Nuns on the bus who have gone gaga. No logic in this whatsoever.
The message on the button implies that the woman is a real consecrated religious, not someone pretending to be a religious. I think that we have a right to know the name of the person on the button and what order she represents and if this is her usual mode of dress. If she is not a consecrated religious than that is false advertising and the buttons should be removed from public distribution.
Norah, there are other persons at the Inauguration tomorrow who should be sued for false advertising, starting with you-know-who.
If they showed what a real “Sister for Obama” looked like, nobody would be sure if they were sisters or senile grannies.
Maybe it’s a picture of a woman or girl in relation to other daughters and sons of her parents.
Or a half-sister, stepsister, or foster sister.
Or a nurse.
Or, finally, but least likely, a nun.
Wikipedia used to claim that the group of men that calls itself “Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence” was indeed an ‘order’ of ‘sisters’. So ‘sisters’, like ‘marriage’ in my native Canada, can mean whatever anyone wants it to mean, even men. So don’t be surprised who shows up wearing these pins.
– or a member of the Muslim Sisterhood?
Maybe the button refers to Maya Soetoro-Ng and Auma Obama.
If you stop and think about it whom are the buttons going to be seen by at the innauguration? Fellow travelers of the Marxist. No true Catholic, true Patriot, or true believer in our Republic will be anywhere close to the sham. The buttons will be, so to speak, preaching to the choir and that choir has nothing to do with any church.
Thanks, Fr. Z for the star. The same sick feeling happens…looking at these things, does it not?
James Bowman, who gives his highest praise (two stars) to very few movies, gave it to Galaxy Quest (complete review contains spoilers):
“For the laughs are always better when they are based on a foundation of truth, and the truth behind this movie is that heroism, like virtue itself, is an act. It does not come naturally to any of us to put aside the fears and desires of the natural man in order to behave bravely and nobly. Heroes become heroes by acting the part of heroes. “
Commander Peter Quincy Taggart cared about the unborn:
” As long as there is injustice, whenever a Targathian baby cries out, wherever a distress signal sounds among the stars, we’ll be there. This fine ship, this fine crew. Never give up… and never surrender. ”
It’s a Targathian baby, but still.
By Grabthar’s Hammer, by the Sons of Warvan, these “Sisters” will be avenged.
Here’s the catalog page for that picture

The photographer’s name is bubbalove.
It was taken in August 2005 or earlier.
jhayes found it! — Here’s the catalog page for that picture
Father Z’s readers are awesome!
jhayes, being sold in pound sterling and I looked up others with her and she is a model, posing for these and other photos, some of which are rude.
Conclusion, fake….totally….
The button is a joke….and insulting, like some of her photos
http://www.istockphoto.com/royalty-free/Nun#1a26d3f8
WOW at the stock photos…and kudos for finding those, jhayes! So they used an image of a fake nun who, in her other work can be seen flipping the bird. How classy. It wouldn’t be the first time Obama’s graphic designers have done something stupid with stock photography.
I agree with Norah. And might add:
No self respecting nun that wears a habit would ever vote for obama. It’s probably the old pin wearing nuns from Our Lady of the Pantsuit that voted for him. Or was it the (throw) Nuns (under) On the Bus crowd?
Credit goes to Peter Rother who gave the lead that I followed up.
As I will not pay heed to the fake “sister” on that O button I ain’t paying heed to the hype that is Obama’s inauguration…I ain’t gonna be worried I am just gonna be prayin. May God bless us all in the next coming four very long years.
Too bad someone did’t plant some buttons of old ladies in pantsuits with “nuns on the bus for obama.”
I wish there was some way to publicize the fake nun button and the “not so nice” photo.
Bloggers?
Eye of the Tiber?
Should I go to confession for thinking that?
Love the research skills here!!
Democrats have no shame.
Way back when (last summer) when I was looking at a President Obama swag site there were a whole lot of buttons and bumper stickers with sayings like “nurses for …,” “doctors for …,” electricians for …,” and so forth. I suspect that these buttons were put together by a person who does not know much about women religious in the United States.
I was not surprised to learn that this picture came from photo stock because the habit really did not look real, also the model was fairly well made up and/or airbrushed and that did not seem realistic.
The pictures of the older nun giving various gestures wasn’t even funny.
I would agree that it would be more likely that a women religious attired in the old style would probably have not voted for the President.
That habit definitely does not look real. Neither does the expression on the woman’s face.

I guess that “strict wall of separation” of (Catholic) church and state only applies when the left is being critiqued….
