Mmm that last painting. I spent a lot of time with that one when I was at the Met in the spring. So beautiful.
Those are beautiful Fr. Z. Fall is such a nice time everywhere.
El Greco?
Father you do realize that given the uncertain provenance of many of the medieval items in their collection you might be completely justified to simply take them. Just because Napoleon stole them and eventually some rich man donated them does not mean they do not still belong to us…….
The third pic from the top has a Narnian air about it….
Elizabeth D: Yup. El Greco.
I think I could show my three year old five El Greco’s, and then unleash him in a gallery to find the rest, and he would. El Greco was remarkable consistent in style, like many other famous painters: Giotto, Zurbaran, Monet, Durer, Raphael, Rubens, Goya and the like.
Mariana2,
It does! At first, I thought that shadow in the circle of sunlight was a lamp post, but it looks like the shadow of one.
Combat boots?
[Yes. I am a member of the Church Militant, after all. An officer, even. And I am at war. Frankly, tactical gear is great not just for travel but for everyday use. The boots side-zip, which is helpful for airport security … though I have TSA Pre-Check status now and don’t have to take off my shoes as often. I can walk and stand all day in these boots, especially with Fox River socks (sent by a reader, btw). The pants are 5.11, are water resistant, rip-stop, and have pockets inside the knee area for pads that can be inserted: great for kneeling a lot. In the mag pouch I carry a stole and my oil stock. (I have a different way of dealing with spare mags.) I can usually get by with just a backpack for short trips. It’s all good.]
