Our Lady of Fatima FSSP Chapel in Pecquanic, NJ. One of their oldest from the 1990s. Harkens back to the Indult days when it was easier to find the stamp with the upside down airplane than a TLM.
Pardon me, “Pequannock”
Yes, this is the FSSP apostalate in NJ, Our Lady of Fatima. http://www.olfchapel.org/
My friend, Fr. Matthew McNeely is the Pastor. The FSSP is fully Catholic and in communion with Rome.
It had been an independent chapel but eventually was taken over by the Diocese of Paterson. Quite different from the ordinary mess in the other parishes of the diocese. Unfortunately, there was been no cross-pollination from this place to the others.
This Chapel is a taste of heaven. The FSSP Priests assigned there over the years are exceptional – gifts from God. The Choir often sings in 6 (!) parts on Feast Days and Solemnities.
Two and three daily Masses, depending on the day of the week, and 4 Sunday Masses.
The Bishop is Arthur Seratelli, who is very supportive of the Chapel and performs their Confirmations each year using the 1962 Missal.
Yes, this is Our Lady of Fatima, the FSSP chapel in Pequannock. There is a SSPX chapel, or used to be an SSPX chapel, St. Anthony’s in North Caldwell.
I think its still appropriate to label the FSSP chapel as an Lefebrve Chapel. Afterall, if it wasn’t for the Archbishop there probably wouldn’t be an FSSP in existence.
The local SSPX are the group from Father Wicken’s church in West Orange. When he died, despite the fact that his wishes were that the church pass to the SSPX, it went to ICK. So they are in West Caldwell.
Every week, & I’m not kidding, I see new people at OLF, Pequannock. The church is SRO
On the weekends and if you don’t get there early on Big Feasts, you’ll be out in the vestibule.
NoraLee9: a friend of mine went there for Good Friday…and heard the entire service frop the top step by the front door. so I don’t doubt it.
@edm there is another parish in the Diocese of Paterson that offers the TLM: Sacred Heart in Clifton. I am friends with their music director (we went to the same university). They do Sunday Low Mass at 8 am and High Mass once a month, also at 8 am. Their 10:30 Novus Ordo however, is ad orientem with chanted Propers.
Our Lady of Fatima, Pequannock, Mater Ecclesiae, Berlin, are the last two major TLM spots I need to visit someday (Diocese of Trenton has 3 locations, but 2 are Low Mass only).
I’m currently with the Latin Mass community of Jersey City at St. Anthony of Padua, but my personal favorite is still St. John the Baptist, Allentown. I’ve never experienced such a friendly, joy filled parish such as theirs.
NoraLee9: Actually the chapel in West Caldwell is SSPX, the one you are thinking of is in West Orange.
