Here is a reworking of Lully Lulla Lullay by Philip Stopford. It’s about the Holy Innocents.

Thank you again for that, Father. I have to say, despite many years in choral music in Ireland, I hadn’t come across Ecclesium. So I Googled, as one does, and found that they were drawn from the choir of Belfast (Anglican) Cathedral, where that performance was held, but were disbanded in 2010 when the Cathedral Board decided to… disband them, apparently. What a shame. What great voices. The Anglican Church in Ireland is pretty “low”, but they have some great choirs in the Cathedrals, and that makes it all the more astounding.
On another note, Northern Ireland, with a very large evangelical population, still has pretty much the same anti-abortion law as we have in the Republic. And seem determined to keep it, thank God. Which it seems the “catholic” (small “c” intentional) republic (small “r” intentional) is falling over itself to jettison. Well, we’ll see. Herod the King in his raging is ranging far and wide over here. But it seems from history that he went to his Judgement quite soon after the Slaughter.

Lovely indeed. And as noted, this song has been appropriately associated with our modern day slaughter of innocents called abortion. I can never get through it dry-eyed in that context, especially the last verse (as I learned it as a child)
