Advent 2022 is but a fortnight away! Fathers, do you have your 2022-23 Ordo yet for the Vetus Ordo?

Only 14 more days until Advent.  Early Christmas shopping is a good idea (use my links, please).  Planning for “Stir Up Sunday” should be undertaken.

You should also have an Ordo for the Vetus Ordo.

Which will it be?

There is always one online at divinumofficium.com, but it nice to have a printed copy.

The Pontifical Out-Of-Commission “Ecclesia Dei” used to put one out, but it itself has been put out.  Instead, the Una Voce Federation has created one.  The Latin Mass Society has links to an online view and a way to buy a copy. HERE

The FSSP used to do one, but I haven’t heard from them, nor from the Cantians.  Sooo….

Romanitas Press has one.  HERE

SSPX has a nice resource also at

The Romanitas Press one is nice as well. Louis does a nice job at putting it together. It is always good to support the work he is doing there.

From my own use, and also conversations with other priest friends, the Romanitas Press Ordo is decent for the General Calendar, but for the Proper Feasts for US, UK, Australia, and New Zealand (which are listed as one of it’s features), is very skeletal and sometimes is incorrect, with the publisher not very interested in correcting errors unless the one reporting it do the leg work and find the decrees.

For example, a priest I know in New Zealand mentioned to me he saw that Principal Patroness (Our Lady) was incorrect a few years back. It was changed in the 1980s from Our Lady of Help of Christians to the Assumption. When he mentioned it to the publisher, the response was that it would not be changed without copies of decrees, indults, etc. The publisher would not do the research themselves.

So, “caveat emptor” for this feature, which is not certainly reliable, and where there seems no interest by the publisher to ensure it is correct, or research apparent errors, at least as of a few years ago. Perhaps that has changed in the breach.

That said, the General Calendar has always been correct, to my knowledge.

The LMS Ordo does not provide proper feasts, but at least one is not relying on the Ordo for these to be correct, thinking research has been done to accurately present them.

I planned to edit the PDF provided by the LMS to make my own local Ordo, and make a donation of the cost of the Ordo to them for their efforts (instead of wasting paper and shipping). Might be a good option for others who have said skills and PDF editing software.

    Dear Fr. Z.

Thank You for your most welcome news on the forthcoming Ordos. Most important to get this information.

The outstanding Ordo from The Saint Lawrence Press (which Zephyrinus always purchases) is available very soon (a matter of a few days). Ordering is very simple.

Just log in to their Web-Site at https://ordorecitandi.blogspot.com/
and go to the section on the right-hand side, which states: “Ordering Information for Ordo Recitandi”. Don’t try and order the 2022 Copy by mistake. The 2023 Copy will be available very soon.

Welcome back from The Eternal City, Reverend Fr. Z. We look forward to your next venture in Holy Week 2023.

    in Domino

    They have what we need.

They are the original Guardians of Tradition.

“Only 14 more days until Advent.”

Then Christmas is on a Sunday this year! :)

Last year was my first Christmas since confirmation. Silly me, I decided to meet my obligation at the earliest vigil mass of Christmas eve, since vigils aren’t usually as crowded as the actual day of obligation. Ha! (I should have learned from the Easter vigil, when I got confirmed.)

It was packed! SRO! (I am NOT a “crowd guy”.)

So this year, I will go early on Christmas morning (at least, that’s the plan). All the Catholics with children will be at home opening gifts, and there will be plenty of room at church to find a nice seat.

As the publisher of the Ordo offered by Romanitas Press, I would like to make a clarification to a comment posted here.

It is my objective to make our Ordo as accurate as possible and so I am always willing to receive corrections if something is amiss. This also includes the appendixes for the Australia and New Zealand (an unique feature of our Ordo), of which I have long suspected needs some revisions (even before I took over the Ordo’s publication in 2017).

However, I cannot just simply make a change without having evidence—a decree, document or verifiable resource—that the alteration was official (e.g., approved by the appropriate authority—and regarding the Principle Patroness of Australia, I would want to include the change with a note stipulating the authoritative origin and date of this revision). And here in the USA, such information for Australia and New Zealand is not usually readily available, and thereby would take quite a bit of time and effort to secure—the latter of which is unfortunately often lacking! That being said, I certainly never intended my replies to suggested corrections for these regions to come across as merely dismissive, or uninterested.

In this matter, I have sought the assistance in obtaining such information from individuals in Australia or New Zealand in order to achieve the aforementioned objective. Such help is greatly appreciated—as ultimately it assists with the complete restoration of Catholic Tradition worldwide via both universal and local liturgical observances—and I would certainly provide some recompense.

Thus if any of Fr. Z’s readers might be able to assist in this important matter, please do not hesitate to contact me at: info@romanitaspress.com. For example, if anyone possesses a missal (altar or laity) that has a supplement for Australia and New Zealand that is concurrent with the 1962 calendar (or even as late as 1964), please contact me!

On the issue of the FSSP Ordo, it took me about six seconds to find the new one, sold on their publishing site, just like past years:
