I wonder if that insistence was based on pandemic protocols, “for the greater good” or some horse-lucky like that.

Give Fr. Cranmer there a “Book of Common Prayer” for Easter.

  2. maternalView says:

Despite the rants against rituals and clinging to old ways of doing things, this proves to me they understand that how we pray and approach God with gestures and postures matters. They want to change our view of our faith by changing our approach.

In Chile after 29 months we finally have been able to go to Mass again, but we must receive in the hand and standing ONLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This is a direct order from our pastor and only priest at our Church.

    No!

NONE of this on the tongue thingey or kneeling. (Whaddya think you are in a CATHOLIC CHURCH or sumptin?) Damn!!

For any of you wanting to think that it is a covid left over you should know that we are doing the “HEY HOWDY DOO SHAKEY HAND THING” now again. So it is perfectly ok to touch each other again but NOT to receive Our Lord Jesus with respect.

LOOK IF YOU ARE A PRIEST OR GOD FORBID A BISHOP, here is how my family and i look at this DEMAND that we ONLY receive in the hand.

    1. It is disrespectful to Our Lord Jesus.
    2. The order makes us have less respect for you as a priest or bishop as you are DEMANDING we disrespect Our Lord.
    3. This MEANS to us as a family and indeed I am sure many people who love Our Lord, THAT WE CAN NOT RECEIVE JESUS IF WE ARE FORCED TO DISRESPECT HIM FOR YOUR SELFISH REASONS.
(Just because you hate Our Lord do not expect us too also).

In effect we can not and or will not disrespect Our Lord Jesus. It is better to not receive communion at all.

    Man this pisses me off!!!!

More and more I’ve been retreating to Gethsemane in prayer to compassion the Lord. Now more than ever before He is so lonely and abandoned by the ones closest to Him…

Next time I hope she holds her ground and makes them drag her to her feet.

I feel like going all Frank Gorshin on Star Trek with this guy. “You vicious subverter of every decent thought!”

This reminds me of a moment during the broadcast of Papa Benedetto’s funeral. Without audio, perhaps it wasn’t what it appeared… 2:01:10

While I was baptized in the Latin Rite and have since found my way back to “Rome”, I largely grew up within a Byzantine context where there simply was no such thing as reception in the hand. I’ll always remember our dear priest, now deceased and I pray enjoying his eternal reward, reflecting on the golden spoon used in the Byzantine Rite to share the Eucharist saying how even he as a priest didn’t dare touch the consecrated body and blood of Our Lord with his hands unless absolutely necessary. It’s the same sense I get observing a priest in the Latin Rite maintaining “canonical digits” or seeing folks choose to receive kneeling and on the tongue. Love, adoration, humility, and more than anything, belief.

Seeing that earnest love for Our Lord week after week left more of an impression on me as a youngster as to the reality of what was taking place than my parents, Catechism teachers, or even our priest could have explained. I can only imagine how much of a difference such an attitude toward the Blessed Sacrament would make in the church at large, particularly here in the US during this “Eucharistic Revival”.

This video should be titled “Fr. Luther McPharisee forces regressive practices”.

Was this Mass in the Diocese of Libville by any chance?

  8. Bruce says:

I would stay kneeling. They would have to make me get up.

  9. Benedict Joseph says:

Indeed, the epitome of petty little egoists abusing their responsibility, their office, to demean not only the lay communicant but to debase the Lord of the Universe Himself. Were this to happen to me I don’t know if I could even get myself on my feet. One would feel compelled to prostrate oneself there and then in reparation for sacrilege against the Lord and for the Holy Priesthood.
I just read an article about the obscene plans Madame Macron personally urged for the reconstruction of Notre Dame de Paris. I cannot help but regard this prelate’s actions in exactly the same light. We are in the hands of lunatics. The entire situation in both Church and society is viral.

  10. acardnal says:

And the USCCB wonders why Catholics have lost faith in the Real Presence. (sigh)

  11. Not says:

My response to this is a spiritual one. Is this the Body and Blood of Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ? If yes, how can this be harmful to you in anyway?

This standing and in the hand stuff all from Vatican II. Along with Eucharistic ministers (minions), and no altar rails.
    FIND A LATIN MASS!

  12. Suzanne says:

Why even approach for Communion? This is why, if I attend a Novus Ordo (honestly the “old Mass” to me since it’s the one I used to go to. The TLM is new to me.) I do not receive Communion. I only attend for weddings or funerals, and I limit my participation in the rite that was given to my parents’ generation while robbing us of the graces, reverence and beauty of the TLM. It was theft, and I won’t encourage it by unnecessary participation.

  13. Hilda says:

What strucks me, even if they were some rules in that country, is the contempt shown by this priest in his gestures. It is frightening.

  14. redneckpride4ever says:

    @ludovicusrex

I’ve only been to a single Byzantine Liturgy. It was Melkite and in their tradition the priest places the Eucharist upon the tongue by hand.

Being old school Latins and not chewing Communion made it quite the challenge for my wife and I.

  15. L. says:

Requiring people to receive Holy Communion in the hand while standing, and to also let them pick up the host and pop Him into their mouths like a cough drop, is obviously intended to advance the USCCB’s “Eucharistic Revival” effort to restore respect for the Eucharist and belief in the Real Presence!

  16. Lurker 59 says:

The best way to effect change for this type of pastoral aggressive abuse is passive resistance: As others have said, kneel and make the priest abuser refuse you for all to see. But do move on after he has visibly abused his authority for all to see — you have no right to obstruct others.

Day in and day out, kneel and make them refuse you. Be the widow knocking at the door of the unjust judge. Day after day, year after year. Do it as mortification, do it as penance, especially for the sins of the particular priest.

  17. TWF says:

I don’t get this mentality. Isn’t this exactly the “rigidity” that Pope Francis constantly preaches against?

Thankfully I’ve never encountered such a rigid approach in real life. In my archdiocese, the faithful routinely receive kneeling at Novus Ordo Masses without issue.

That would be a big NOPE from me. I would either stand my ground or return to my pew uncommunicated. Is he giving out the Body of Our Lord or candy? Hard to tell the difference in many places, unfortunately.

  20. RobinDeLage says:

I just attended a weekday Mass in Richmond, Virginia. Many of the Communicants were using hand sanitizer prior to receiving Our Lord in their hand. As for me, I simply dropped to my knees and held out my tongue. Father graciously allowed me the Most Blessed Sacrament.

    Don’t think I will…
