Now that the Candidates is over and Firouzja was somewhat humiliated, especially after his underhanded and ignoble machinations to bump Wesley So in the last days of December, I have relented in my irritation… a little. However, I still want Magnus to wipe the floor with him. If they exhumed the corpse of Paul Morphy to play against Firouzja, I would root for the corpse of Paul Morphy to beat him too.
My guy Wesley lost his first match in Division II, but he has clawed his way back up the ladder the lower bracket. He will face Maxime Vachier-Lagrave in their Grand Final. Go Wesley! Beat MVL!

Aw, I listened to his speech for a second time today. I couldn’t find anything that I didn’t agree with. I think the young people will appreciate hearing the truth spoken so boldly. I have been saying extra prayers for him, his wife, and his family because some people are going to be furious. My daughter was in Atchison that day and not all received it kindly. Perhaps they will over time. God bless him and his family!
A friend of mine went to Georgia Tech like Harrison Butker. My friend was there about 15 years before Butker and told me that Georgia Tech was one university that had a good Newman Center (it was helpful to my friend) and there is a good Catholic priest who serves as chaplain to the football team. Yes, one good priest can make a difference. Part of my return to the Church also involved a good Newman Center.
My friend also told me that quite a few priestly vocations in the Archdiocese of Atlanta and the Diocese of Savannah were seeds planted at Georgia Tech.
Regarding to the Butker speech… The video already has nearly half a million (!) views on YouTube. I truly believe that many thousands of people will be brought to not only to the Catholic faith but also to the traditional Mass directly due to Butker’s courageous witness. The Lord truly does work in mysterious ways. In this time of great crisis and apostasy in the Church, God plants the seeds of the restoration. Deo Gratias.
