  1. It’s white’s move.  Can you find mate in 2?

[NB: I’ll hold comments with solutions ’till the next day so there won’t be “spoilers” for others.]

At the Tata Steel Blitz in Kolkata yesterday, 3-year-old Anish Sarkar (1500) gave Vidit Gujrathi (2727.4 #23) some help with his first move against Arjun Erigaisi (2800.4 #4).

  2. A.S. Haley says:

The actual mate in two depends on how Black responds to 1. Qb5+:
    If he plays 1. . . . Kd4, then 2. Qb2+ is mate.
    If he plays 1. . . . Kf4, then 2. Bd6+ is mate. And
    if he plays 1. . . . Ke6, then 2. Qd5+ is mate.

Loved the Big Boy. I worked at Big Boy in College. Great place. extreamly clean, week did major cleaning overhaul once a month. Burgers were ground steak. Deserts were amazing. My Son who travels for Business bought me a Big Boy Doll.

I lived in Los Angeles as a little kid. I enjoyed Bob’s Big Boy. My little brother liked them alot because he thought it was named after him (he went by Bobby as a little kid). I don’t remember Big Boy having a drive through but I do remember Pup n Taco and Jack in the Box having one.

Fr. Z might miss Red Barn which were around in his neck of the woods as a kid. Red Barn did not just hamburgers, but also chicken and fish. They even had a Big Mac type burger before the golden arches did.

I forgot to mention in Pittsburgh Big Boys were called “Eat-n-Park”. I do recall going to Frisch’s in Cincinnati, which were part of the Big Boy franchise.
