Devious. Underhanded. Treacherous.
Just a few adjectives that spring to mind.
Right? Wrong?
Today the German Bishops’ Conference released pastoral guidelines on imparting quasi-liturgical blessings to gay couples. It’s as if they were just waiting for the right moment, when there’s no one in Rome who can react to it. (Once more showing how well the Left knows how to… pic.twitter.com/Fgpbmeyb8j

Gross and scary.
They should put this article on the chair of each cardinal at the general assembly.
Oh. My. Goodness.
Really? The emblem of the German State rather than a crucifix on a rainbow background?
But perhaps it is better this way. This symbol cannot be mistaken for authentic Catholic teaching.
*SIGH*
Schism.
Devious. Underhanded. Treacherous. Evil.
Nothing the German church does should be surprising these days….. Though it feels like if this is an attempt to influence the conclave they have massively overplayed thier hand. I can’t see how it helps the ‘liberal’ faction. Most even moderate cardinals will surely recoil from it.
Maybe it comes from a sense of panic, that they know the (any) future Pope woukd not countenance it. Either that it’s from a place of arrogance that they somehow think this will threaten cardinals into electing a liberal to prevent schism.
Perhaps God is allowing this to manifest now right before the conclave to let the Cardinals know just how bad things are in Germany and what the next pope has to clean up, so they can choose accordingly.
Shameless. And this is from the sort of men who have staff to steer them from doing anything that might be what they’d consider bad PR. These bishops don’t care what Rome thinks, nor do they care what German Catholics think.
.
For decades the Church in Germany— along with other religious denominations— has been receiving government funding, the size of which is based on the declared religious affiliation of German taxpayers. Even while the number of German taxpayers declaring themselves Catholic has been in freefall for decades, the continued government funding is still a rich revenue stream for that Bishops’ Conference.
.
Unfortunately, that revenue stream also insulates the bishops from any need to avoid alienating faithful laity. Instead, the German state and German politicians have become the real constituency, the real ‘flock’, of the German Bishops’ Conference. With the results we see here.
.
If a new Pope were to want to put an end to this sort of outrage, he’d need to find a way to repudiate the current cozy financial arrangement between the German government and its pet bishops.
> the (any) future Pope woukd not countenance it.
Well, I personally wouldn’t hold my breath about that. Sadly, I don’t have much faith in the current college of Cardinals.
I do, however, have faith in God, and whatever happens, He will be victorious in the end.
The German bishops have plenty of money. They’re not worried about much. Schism seems to be right around the corner.
