ROME 25/10 – Day 33: When Titans Walked The Earth

The calendar says sunrise was at 6:38.

The sunset was at 17:09.

For Curia the Ave Maria Bell would have been at 17:30.

However I was in the sacristy of The Parish™ tonight because I had presided over a ritual washing of feet by the Archconfraternity of the Most Holy Trinity of the Pilgrims and Convalescents, going back to the mid-16th century as founded by St. Philip Neri.  In the sacristy, before Mass, I heard the Ave Maria ring at about 17:38.   I want to get a clean recording for you.

Meanwhile…

I’ve been WAITING!!!!

And….

When Titans Walked The Earth… both acting and the script.

From a recent meal….

You’ve seen it before, pizza bianca and sliced tongue with a lovely green herbal sauce and homemade mayo.  A nice starter to share.

This is rib-sticking.

Risotto with saffron topped with ossobuco.  ka’BLAM

Dig that marrow!

A lot of chess is being played.  Can I have a day off, please?

I can’t wait until the Personal Air Vehicle is used by one of the “With It” Novus Ordo Priests, who will make his “Entrance” into the “Mass” on one of these new-fangled guizmos.

Singing, of course, “She’ll Be Coming Round The Mountain When She Comes” !!!

There is a clip of Ernest Milton, Orson Welles, and Peter O’Toole discussing Hamlet on a television program:

They were great actors, not just because they could act, but because they could understand.

As my Scripture studies intensify in my old-age-unemployment, too early to retire, I’m exploring the Hellenistic and Roman perspectives at the coming of Christ. Because I don’t know about my confreres in other milieus, but around these parts, we learn scripture from a strict Hebrew Jewish perspective as the anti-Marcionist continuity of OT+NT.

Anyway, I loved D’Aulaire’s Greek Myths when I was just a tyke (tykon?) and I find it fascinating to step into the hypothetical shoes of a figmentary Greek plebe, or some dude in Egypt, and envision what they might’ve gleaned from the Koine texts that were coming out of Alexandria in those days.

Now I’m being encouraged to read the modern saints and the recent encyclicals and the 24/7 news cycle is force-fed to me, it feels like a mikveh on the sabbath to recover cultural knowledge and pop-culture references that strengthen and confirm our faith. (What is the deal with that tower in Siloam anyway?)
