    ALERT! Maniple follow up!

CATEGORY: SESSIUNCULUM — Fr. John Zuhlsdorf @ 7:42 am

Looking for the perfect gift for that priest who is curious about Summorum Pontificum but is too timid to get off his backside and actually do something about it?

    Encouragement is here!

I got this useful item via e-mail from Fr. S in LA.

    Manipulus ‘Pueri Mundi

Since the late 1970’s the children of the world fabric has been popularized because of its liturgical flexibility, it is non of the liturgical colors, yet at the same time it is all of them!

Now for the first time, the 1970’s meet the 1570’s, as Maniple Productions introduces the Manipulus ‘Pueri Mundi.

The ‘children of the world’ maniple is liturgically neutral and thus can be worn on any occasion, indeed all occasions!

It is lined with a solid cotton reverse fabric and comes with a matching tie to ensure that it stays put during the Sacred Mysteries.

It’s the perfect gift for the priest who thinks he has everything!

He probably already has a ‘children of the world’ stole, perhaps even a chasuble but he never dreamed he would see this day.

Thanks to Pope Benedict XVI’s recent motu proprio never before has a liturgical item been in such demand. For those priests not expecting the liberalization of the Mass of All Time this timely product must truly be a manipulus fletus et doloris.

Remember one size fits all, from the chubbiest cleric to the prissiest priest.

Just strap it on and watch!

    Introibit ad altare Dei!

    1. The Maniple was originally a symbol of the sorrow of the priesthood, as it was used to wipe his sweat.

I find it interesting that it still really DOES remind a lot of priests of this, because many have real problems saying Mass with the Maniple. It is a sacrifice, because it is awkward to have that thing on one’s arm. That is why some take it off to preach. They are often stiff, and difficult to pin in place. One has to be careful when wearing it.

    2. Our Pastor wore a “Pueri Mundi” stole yesterday for the Pentecost “Family Mass”. Every time I see it I’m reminded of a similar necktie I was given which I never wear. Are the stoles made by “Save the Children” too?

    3. “I hope that they haven’t produced too many.”
was what I was about to post,
then I thought, Hang on a minute, maybe Fr Z has developed some irony from his week in Britain.

But then I saw that it had been sent from LA, so who can tell? Maybe there really is a company called Maniple Productions.

Now I don’t know what to believe.

    4. Wonderful that maniples are making their way back…but let’s be honest…that maniple is awful.

    6. [wipes vomit off of keyboard]

      [realizes it is a joke]

[gets depressed that we will probably see some religious goods catalogue actually try to make money in this way]

    7. Please tell me this is a joke! I can’t imagine any priest in his right mind who would say Mass in the EF wearing THAT.

    8. Doesn’t the priest take the maniple off before preaching in order to show that the homily is not a part of the Mass? In many countries the priest takes the entire chasuble off for the homily in the Old Rite.

    12. If that’s the price I have to pay for a reverent EF mass, then let’s get the altar servers matching albs and cassocks.

For what it’s worth, I’ve seen worse vestments.

    13. Joy? Please tell us what you think of this? If you can’t say it here – call me!
p.s. I’ll be at your place next Sunday for the Procession, right?

    14. Oh! This has to be one of the funniest things I have ever seen! Guess what? For some odd reason, our parish, where none of the priests ever uses a Chalice Veil, has a Children of the world Chalice Veil that my children find hilarious in its ugliness!

      Comment by Anna — 12 May 2008 @ 8:18 pm
    15. You all may laugh, but I was an associate pastor at a parish that had a Children of the World Chalice Veil. I thought that one day I might use it to prove my open mindedness. . .

    16. I actually saw a stole in this design over the weekend. Now it seems to be haunting me!

      Comment by Seminarian — 12 May 2008 @ 9:45 pm
    17. Of course, this maniple can only be worn with a burlap chasuble (fiddle-back, what else?) with orphreys in matching pueri mundi fabric.

      Burkenstocks optional, though recommended.
