That is how I imagine the first phone call from the new Archbishop of San Francisco to Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) could begin.
WDTPRS kudos to San Francisco and to Archbp. Cordileone.
While I don’t think he will set off any earthquakes, I hope he will make himself heard in the manner his name suggests.

The new archbishop could easily sell tickets, if he did.
The question becomes why didn’t Archbishop Niederhauer and/or Cardinal Wuerl do anything about her? For that matter, why hasn’t Cardinal Dolan done anything about Christine Quinn, the mayor-apparent of NYC? She, as has Pelosi, says it’s her Church, despite marrying her lesbian lover recently (with Mario Cuomo in attendance).
If our bishops aren’t prepared to lead, they need to make room for those who will.
The continuing scandal and sacralidge, and that’s what it is, of nominally Catholic politicians receiving Holy Communion whilst rejecting the teaching of the Church in the most serious areas must stop. You cannot claim to be in Communion with Holy Mother Church if you support the abominable crime of abortion and un natural marriage. May God give Bishop Cordileone a true lions heart in defending the true faith and stop false Catholics masquerading that they are faithful members of the Church, especially in during an election year.
I LOVE bishop Cordileone, wonderful man, great priest, he confirmed 2 of my kids. So sad to see him go, even if it’s just across the Bay Bridge.
He is an extraordinarily patient man – while I definitely get the impression that he’d prefer to take names and kick behinds, that’s not what he’s likely to do, in my experience. But he will not put up with people abusing their relationship with the church for political gain – I would just expect any arm-twisting and smack downs to take place off camera.
But, we’ll see. The time for patience may be past. Long past.
In any event, we all need to storm heaven for this guy – he is really stepping into it in SF.
We’re expecting too much. There may a conversation, but it will be just to say hello. He will treat her like Crdnl Dolan treat Mayor Doomberg.
I recently saw a You Tube clip by Archbishop Sheen wherein he described the word “demonic” as a rendering, a tearing apart. That is what I see in Nancy, her confusion and stress from what this is doing to her, this attempt at keeping her faith and yet knowing somehow that she is selling herself out to her political ambition. If St. Peter himself asked to speak to her, would it matter? After all these years of receiving nothing more than basically a slap on the wrist, of knowing quite clearly what thenChirch stands for, would anything matter? She has her Church, Nancy style, and “seems” to be very comfortable with it, thank you. I think itnwould take an immense momentous occurrence in her life to open her mind and heart to the truth.
Still, it would be very interesting to hear what Archbishop Cordileone has to say to her. Perhaps his words might cause others to see more clearly brfore they go further down the same path. I will pray for a good outcome. I’m sure his words will be worth all of us listening to as well.
I hope he shuts down that factory of homosexual dissent, Most Holy Redeemer.

He & Cardinal Burke are more of the same cloth than Cardinal Dolan from what I have read. Patient yes but not compromising the faith in order to “keep the lines of communication” open I pray.
Congratulations to San Francisco. For my part I am sad to see him leave Oakland, a diocese much in need of his character, judgement, and erudition. A man of strong courage. A lion heart indeed.

I observe that the website of Sts. Peter and Paul Church, in downtown SF, appears to have been hacked in some way. Chrome reports it’s home page as affected by malware. As the pastor there is an excellent man, this is most disappointing.
I was presented to Bishop Cordileone during RCIA and he is a fantastic Bishop. I’m so happy that he will be in this new role. Please pray for him!
We were sorry to see him leave San Diego a few short years ago but obviously God and the Holy Father have greater plans for him. His isn’t an easy assignment.

Lion heart or paper tiger? I guess we will see but there have certainly been no “earthquakes” during his tenure here in Oakland. Catholic Charities East Bay was exposed in the diocesean paper as already in compliance with the HHS Mandate in terms of providing contraceptive coverage for employees…and…nothing happened. I honestly can’t name one real change in the diocese since he arrived in 2009.
Sigh.

As a resident of the North Bay, this is extremely exciting news. While not in the Archdiocese, every Diocese in the area is affected in some manner by the Archdiocese. Congratulations to SF Catholics, and Blessings and Prayers for Archbishop Cordileone.

I agree with you. We really need more bishops like Cardinal Raymond Burke and Bishop Bruskewitz.

I’m only saddened that our diocese smack in the center of California didn’t merit a bishop of his caliber. May God help us and soon!
This is the first I have heard of the new Archbishop of San Francisco though I have been praying for it for a long time. Thank you Lord! And may Archbishop Cordileone serve in this demanding job with grace and distinction. I will continue to pray for him. Dealing with the rock-headed Pelosi will not be easy and there is so much more to challenge him.

People will expect miracles from this poor man in the first year (like a few people commenting here). But our Lord warned the apostles to be “as clever as snakes and as meek as doves.” That will probably be how Archbishop Cordileone handles things, and probably why the Holy Father has put him there.
At first I heard his surname as “Corleone.” It led to a fantasy in which the Abp. makes Nancy Pelosi an offer she couldn’t refuse.

Maybe things won’t change a bit, but maybe the Spirit will move the new Archbishop to greater action. Prayer is needed. Intercessory prayer. Boy, I’ll say he will need it. Yikes!
acardnal, thank you for the timely words of Fr. Hardon. It’s easy to forget we have the Church Triumphant on our side as well, and that all is for the greater glory of Our Lord. I do think, however dispiriting this all can be, that it is thrilling to know we are being given an extraordinary opportunity in our time, to really fight the good fight.
