The “Fashion of the Christ” or “Fellini Rip Off”? Gay-la in NYC

A priest friend wrote to me:

I was surprised no one saw the NY ecclesiastical drag show as a rip off of Fellini

I’m kicking myself right now.

Someone told me that one of the models used a bishop’s real miter, borrowed it for the “show”. I suspect that must be fake news.

I thought of the decadent citizens of Panem in The Hunger Games.

  2. JillMary says:

It was fake news about the miter. Dolan made that joke (funny or not) and of course people ran with it as truth. I believe we have enough to be upset about without furthering these inaccurate stories (not you Father, some folks on Twitter).

  3. Ave Maria says:

The mockery saddens my heart and that a cardinal and priest thought it was fine and dandy is a travesty.

  4. Thorfinn says:

The “borrowed mitre” thing was fake news from joking comment ++Dolan made that was lost in secular translation.

  5. TheDude05 says:

It is sort of fake news, Cardinal Dolan said he loaned it to her as long as she did a few Confirmations for him. It was intended as a joke.

  6. Charliebird says:

Cardinal Dolan only joked when he said that. A website reported it as if we was serious, but he was joking. It was on the Catholic Channel radio

I am afraid it is all-too-true. I read an article earlier today that reported that Cardinal Dolan had lent some of his, or the archdiocese’s, church vestments to be used at the “gala.”

  8. William Tighe says:

It turns out that Cardinal Dolan was “joking” about loaning vestments.

I don’t get the world of high fashion, and less so now.

  10. Ultrarunner says:

A SiriusXM interview with Cardinal Dolan finds His Eminence jokingly stating that the miter was returned to him by Rihanna who then “…volunteered to do some confirmations.”

The sound bite reflects the pervasive extent of irreverence and mockery present at the event coming as it did from the highest ranking Catholic represtantive of the Catholic Church in attendence.

Today I read that Fr. James Martin, S.J. wast at the Met gala….as soon as I read that, I understood everything.

What was baffling was that the Sistine Chapel Choir was there present singing. I’m surprised nobody has really commented on that :-o

I’m making an Act of Reparation to the Sacred Heart prior to tomorrow’s Ascension EF Holy Mass.

  13. James C says:

Father, Cardinal Dolan claimed (in jest) that he loaned obscene pope princess Rihanna her mitre, and that he had recruited said obscene pop princess to perform confirmations in his place. Har har, Cardinal Dolan is so funny!

Nothing says “going out to the peripheries” and “smelling like the sheep” than hobnobbing with the filthy obscene and filthy rich celebrity set as they prance around mocking and sexualising sacred things.

I believed the fake news about the miter and [re]acted impulsively. Mea culpa. Thanks for the kind fraternal correction!
