An amazing bishop. I go to college in his diocese and he’s made a lot of progress here. I’ve had the opportunity to hear him preach on a couple of occasions and was able to have dinner with him and some other men who were discerning a vocation to the priesthood. I couldn’t be more pleased with how he’s handled things since he’s been bishop here in Saginaw.
I believe one of the Religious Sisters of Mercy of Alma is doing the operation…a great order of women religious (http://www.rsmofalma.org/).
I spoke with Bishop Carlson on Thanksgiving. He was in good spirits and seemed to be in good health. We joked briefly about his operation (I reminded His Excellency that, as bishop of the diocese, he is the boss, and if he wanted a few weeks off he could simply do so, without having to go through an operation), and he was very grateful of a promise of prayer.
He is doing an amazing job in Saginaw, my home diocese, and has much and difficult work yet to accomplish. Dominus conservet eum!
My prayers are with him…
He will be in my prayers at tomorrow morning’s Mass.
I have already been to Mass this morning, but will include him in my Liturgy of the Hours today, and probably include him in more petitions throughout these next days and weeks.
I took photos of him at the Cardinal Arinze Breakfast in Detroit and being so close to Saginaw, we are all too well aware of just how good Bishop Carlson is. He has worked wonders in plowing through the problems of one of the most liberal dioceses in the US.
I would also like to ask people to keep Bishop-elect, Msgr Daniel Flores in their prayers today, as well. In just a few hours, he will be ordained an Auxiliary Bishop in Detroit by Adam Cardinal Maida. He comes to us from Texas and from all I’ve heard is also “one of the very good ones”.
Oops! Thought I included the link to the photos of Bishop Carlson at the recent Breakfast with Cardinal Arinze in Detroit.
