I’m speechless.
Mimes should be heard and not seen.
I am truly curious to know their rationale behind this.
Our parish recently sprouted a drum kit next to the organ console. I commented, “What’s next, liturgical juggling teams or mimes!?!” I really am trying to be charitable…
Marcus, one could hope that they are planning on using Papa Haydn’s Paukenmesse during an upcoming celebration of the extraordinary use….
It’s the traditional Silent Low Mass for the feast of St. Marcel Marceau!
Is that a burse and chalice veil I see in the middle of the altar? Oh my!
A mime is a terrible thing to waste. (Well… maybe not. :))
I think that she is miming, in Latin, the responses for the old Mass. So surely that’s alright?
It’s certainly extraordinary…..
Wasnt it the liberals who keep complaining the TLM was “too quiet”?
Isn’t there a classic philosophical Problem of Other Mimes?
Jim: she is miming, in Latin, the responses for the old Mass.
ROFL!
I think she’s miming “oh no…it’s the Motu Proprio I hear coming”
I think Lord Vetinary, Patrician of Ankh-Morpork, had the right idea. He sentenced all those convicted of pantomime to be suspended upside down in a dungeon full of scorpions, facing a wall that is carved, “LEARN THE WORDS.”
Actually, I think it’s part of the carols before Midnight Mass on Christmas Eve. The mime is performing “Do You Hear What I Hear?”
A mime is a terrible thing to waste !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
There is one solution to this. It involves a silencer.
Now all they have to do is teach our “music ministers” mime. That’d be great. I can ignore the hand waving–we get that anyway whether they can screech or not.
Hi Father,
I love your blog. However, I was thinking about something today. The Sacrament of Penance isn’t something that is enthusiastically offered by priests these days. It seems to be most common that it is offered for 45 minutes to an hour on Saturdays only. I was wondering how available this most important sacrament is at your parish. I’m just wondering how you balance frequent posting and sacraments at the same time. I’m not asking to be offensive, I just want to know because the priests at some of the parishes that offer it once a week for an hour or less don’t blog, at least not that I know of. It’s kind of frustrating too. I think it should be available without having to call the receptionist and schedule an appointment. By the way, that never seems to work out. I tried to schedule appointments with the priest at my old parish several times and he never EVER called me back.
But, how many times have you wished that the homilist would shut up and quit digging himself into some heretical hole?
Giles,
Several!
Did the Hebrews do stuff like this during Passover?
Did Jesus have entertainers at the Last Supper?
Why is it okay during Mass in our time?
I’m in communion with……The Ed Sullivan Show. What next? Chimps on bicycles? St. John Vianney said to be a Christian one must pray, do good works, and suffer. So we suffer……

Good points, except that mass is a memorial of the Passion and Death–not the Last Supper.
